Same happened to me on my 53 plate STI the first time around. Got a new battery under warranty. The same thing is happening again so looks I'm off to the local dealership as well.

Don't know if you're aware, but the Scoob has a (so-called) smart alternator that only charges when it detects enough current draw. This means if you're not using lights, fans etc then the battery won't be getting any charge and over a period of months this eventually drains it dead. Most have found the solution is to simply leave the sidelights on or the fan on position #1. A larger capacity battery helps too.

There was also 2 areas of concern with the RAC Trackstar unit. It has a default wait time of 6 hours where it keeps trying to detect satelites before going into sleep mode, even if parked in a garage. It also has a very sensitive movement sensor which can be triggered by passing vehicles, reseting the wait time so it never reaches sleep mode. I believe there are fixes available for this which reduce the wait time and sensitivity.

ref the RAC trackstar unit. They are aware of the problem & as long as your car is within warrenty period they will come out foc & swap the unit for an updated one that goes to sleep within 1 hour instead of the 6+. Did mine without any argument

Exactly what i got told by Mr subaru assist when he came out, hence the reason my side lights are now always on and the fan in position 1

Simon can you post details please? Needed a new battery after a week away! Also does it lower the protection offered by the Trackstar in any way?

Thanks,

Gazz.

Does not change it protection wise, the unit just goes into sleep mode quicker hence less battery drain. Call Trackstar as they are aware of the problem.
