Just had my dealer carry out the 90,000 mile service (actual 71,000) and ended up forking out £750 !!!!!, Apparently the timing belt tensioner required changeing (£104 plus vat) as well at the big service. are other cars this expensive to service ?. I would not swap it though, still love every second driving it. 1999 uk 2000 turbo PPP

 

i have a uk99 ppp, its also on 70k. had the big service on 60,
iv had a fcuked gearbox and currently have a noisy power steering pump and knackered droplinks

why did you put it in for the big service early ??

 

The service intervals are age or mileage based.

 

Had my 90K a couple of months ago - £540 including cambelt tensioner

The virtues of going to a 3rd party garage now I'm out of warrantee
Probably better too, as the garage also work on Group N Scoobies!!

What Subaru - or is it the importer who decides to charge so much for their parts? Either way, it is disgusting.

Cambelt,pads and disc is one of the most over-inflated prices for standard wear and tear parts, add the usual dealer labour rate on top, and you have a car that can work out more expensive to service than a Honda NSX. In comparison, an Impreza is no more complex mechanically than a Ford Fiesta. In fact, the cambelt is easier and faster to change on the Scoob (therefore less labour)...but it still costs more to service Work out your value for money yourself. Pehaps if enough customers complained and went independent and there was a good supply of OE spec alternative parts then the dealer and parts import wouldn't be looking so smug

Although you will never get away from the £90 bill for oils and fluids on a main service.

Bear in mind now block exemption has come into force, you do not have to go to dealers for service work to comply with the warrantee. Just as long as the garage uses genuine parts and follows the same schedules you can have it done anywhere.

Mine is due next month along with tax and MOT Cars only done 43k so I dont know if they will trim the service to suit? Stopped using the dealers a long time ago, found Prosport to be much better and slightly cheaper (even though they are Subaru approved now).

Cambelt Tensioner......im seeing a trend here hmmmm.

Had my 45k done at the Scoobyclinic also including cambelt tensioner and from memory think it cost around the £450 mark

 

Funny that....had 90000 Cam Belt change last November...They wanted to change the tensioner...I said no.....Eldest is a mechanic and had a look afterwards and said it didnt need doing......107000 miles on the clock and no probs.....touch wood

 

They changed my tensioner at the 90k service as well, but they know me and showed me exactly what was wrong with it. When it was changed the annoying little rattle when I started had gone. The tensioner is oil filled and mine was leaking. The rattle was cauesd by it filling with oil on start as far as I know.

 

Yep, I had my tensioner done with the cambelt as it wasn't doing its job and taking up the slack. Len at Subaru4you spotted it right away even before the old belt came off.

I have just bought an MY99 car that had its last oil service with this chap, worth using him? He is fair way from me but I cannot find anyone nearer, I am based in south west London.

My MY99 is booked in at Tileys in Bristol next wednesday to have this sevice done (Cars done 36k) - not looking forward to it. Does anyone know of a good independent in the area (Bath/Bristol 50miles) for future use - now that I'm out of the extended warrantee?

if your dealers ok with it, supply some of your own parts, helps knock the price down

(all off ebay) 4xNGK PFR6B (as fitted from dealer)- £16 (dealer about £45 with vat)

fuel filter (subaru part, in box) - £12 (dealer £30+)

supply my own oil, buy it all when i've got the cash spare so it doesn't feel like i'm forking out all the time. hey presto, knocked about £100 off my 90k service and takes the sting out of the other services

 

I had my 30k service done 6 weeks ago, should've been £460ish. Walked out £861 lighter - fooked front brake discs (incorrectly fitted pads), fooked front pads, plus replacement fog lamp and covers.

££££££££££££££££££££!

Now my 4th gear is crunching at high revs.

walldonway in larkfield (along the A20) it's a main dealer so it's not the cheapest. but i've never had any real problems with them over 5 years of using them.

Len at Subaru 4 U is superb, took my new (to me) scoob to him on the recommendations from Hampshire Subaru - normal change and brake pads done, treated the car with respect cleaning up all the brake parts as well. He's ex-dealer so knows his stuff

Had the Tensioner done at 21,000miles on my MY00 UK. It used to clatter/knock when starting from cold. The colder the morning the worse it was.

All sorted and quite ever since (now done 34,000miles).

Didn't pay Subaru prices either, as got it off Ebay. Plus my mechanic only charges £27.50 an hour.

They did a re-design due to a fault with the oil seals on the plunger. IIRC the revised part has a green dot of paint on it, the old part had blue.
