Default Subaru Manual........What Fuel To Use.

Picked up my first WRX (MY02) on Saturday, what a weekend ive had!!!

Been filling up with 97RON.

However, after reading the owners manual it states that for the standard WRX Turbo you can use fuel of 95RON or higher.

Does anyone actually run their WRX on 95RON ?

It obviously cant screw the engine up or it wouldnt be mentioned in the owners manual otherwise.

All comments welcome.

(would like to see everyones verdict on this, as it puzzles me )

It will run fine on 95 RON. But even better on 97 RON....use it to reach the car's full potential!

You wont like 95RON unless you drive like a Granny.

Or better still - use Optimax (98 RON)

certainly dont drive like a granny......no chance.
97 will be sufficient i think. ( 98RON when im flush )

I stuck £25 worth in when i picked it up, managed to get just over a 100 miles......pretty gutted, but did give it some propper stick!
Its just to enjoyable to worry about fuel consumption.

When I purchased my Bugeye WRX, main dealer told me to run on OPtimax, but occasionally fill with normal 95RON. I'm not convinced it's wise to chop and change - after months period of using only Optimax, I thought I would change to Normal Shell 95RON just for one tank. This weekend, I have had some bad petrol smells and I am wondering if some computer (is it ECU or MAFF thingy?) trying to flood somehow to compensate for lower fuel quality. I think it's best to stick to Optimax and leave fuel mixture to settle down.
