There already is such a magazine called True Grip, which is the quarterly publication of the SIDC (www.sidc.co.uk). About the same size, full colour, full of articles on past and future events, DIY stuff (latest issue has a guide on stripping down and re-building the engine, fitting ICE equipment etc), rally reports, bits for sale, adverts etc.

Perfect format would be a Scooby version of Zoo mag: Subaru & Girlies!

I notice that your company is based in the US, not sure I want to read about US sourced Scoobies all year.....

Still bitter about the 2.5L STi, eh m8?

Yes, we're US based, and yes, it'll be more expensive for UK-based subscriptions (I personally spend a fortune every month over here on UK car mags--so it's only fair )

I see it this way, if we can impress you guys...our primary U.S. audience should be easy by comparison. Great info about True Grip, I wasn't aware of it.

Cheers,

Ryan

Our other magazine is 'Driving Sports' (a US-based rally magazine--yes, I got sick of getting stuck $9 for RallyXS every time I wanted a fix) and we wanted something related--but different. Also, the URL was available. Which is also important.

Also, 'Sport' connotes 'being a sport' or 'active lifestyle' as oppose to 'Sports' which connotes the activity of specific (in this case motoring) sports like rally, drift and drag racing. We could go with something like ROO or All Wheel Driven, or many others, but the thought was that it needed to be seen as Subaru-specific, without any confusion, just by seeing the name in logo or typed formats. We're having legal check it out, but we also believe 'Subie' is not going to require legal clearance with Subaru corporate.

Bitter? No it never occurred to me. Still, it's not very relevant reading about US model cars, just as it wouldn't be relevant reading about Jap spec cars. Maybe novelty value for 1 or 2 issues - but not EVERY issue!

Looks nice?

What does it have to cost and where can you buy it or is it only available on subscription?

Greetings,
SRX!

If there's enough interest, we can hook up UK distribution. If not, it will just be available via subscription. In the US and Canada we'll have both national distro and subscriptions available. Therefore, it's still too early to quote a price for your potential market. To give a high ballpark, we currently charge $39.95 USD for a UK subsciption to Driving Sports. However, you already have such great WRC and local rally coverage we don't have any reason to really make DS any cheaper for your market.

re-read the 1st post again it says

"Please note that *nothing* is finalized on this yet. Not the name (though I do own the URL), not the design. Final product could look completely different...or almost identical. This is for informational purposes only."

JohnS

there may well be a magazine allready available,,

but as is the case,,,,, there is nothing obvious letting people know,,,

if its provided as a option or comes free with an SN+ membership, its hardly

going to shift loads....

If as i think rdouthit will be marketing it, it will be available in your local

newsagents,, giving a major boost to the marque...

bmw have there own mag as do volks and numerous others

im,ll all for it as long as its not a max power type froth mag...

Looks too US-centric to me. The name (Subie isn't used here), the stuff about 2.5 RS exhausts, an interview with a rally driver I've never heard of, some stuff about Subaru of America.

TBH I can't see what you'd fill it with, except similar content to True Grip.

Patrick Richard is currently sweeping (practically) both the US and Canadian series' as a self-sponsored privateer. He's also competed in several WRC events in your neck of the woods. And yes, that particular mockup cover is very US-centric.
