Default MY01 WRX Import???

I've just brought an MY01 WRX Import which is already over here and is un-registered.

The seller has told me the car will need to have an SVA test @ £190 and a MODEL REPORT will be needed for the SVA test @ £350 (www.modelreports.com)

Modifications for the SVA test are to have a fog lamp fitted on the rear and to have an alarm fitted.

To register the car once SVA test pass will be 6months tax plus reg' fee of £35 max.

The thing that concerns me is that the Vertion 7 WRX is not showing on www.modelreports.com The V7 Sti is and so is the V8.

Is all the above true and if there is no model report available what do I do?

Hi

You should also have been given the original of a Customs and Excise form (C&E 386) which shows that the duty and taxes have been paid in the car when it came through Customs and the port of entry into the UK. I know some traders are reluctant to pass this on as it shows the value they paid for the car ! Also not wishing to worry you but did you get given the original Japanese registration document and the English translation? You will need these to get a UK registration document as they are the proof of the year of manufacture etc.

Good luck

Nick

Oh - and by the way - wheres the air con rad !!!! I think that's just the cooling rad in the pics but as I understand it all 01 Imports had aircon fitted as standard. That would explain the gap between the power steering pipes and the rad (where the air con rad fits).

Good luck anyway

Don't mean to be a spoilsport but I have just had another look at the piccies and the wheels aren't 2001 WRX wheels either. They are look very much like the pre my99 16" alloys but they should be 17" (and a different style). I am not an expert but someone on here will probably know for sure. The wheels aren't dear to buy but you are looking at another £300 or so to get what you should have in the first place !!

Yeah they do look like the early wheels. 15K in Autotrader for a Y plate import with 36K Km hmmm - I don't think so. Again, don't want to be negative, but there are things not adding up with this car. I would be very cautious.

Quote I have put the starting bid at £8400 but you can buy it now for £9500 so your total outlay would be £10700......for a car that can be re-sold for £13000 minimum. look on autotrader.com to see for yourself...they are even still selling for £15000+!!!

Well if so could he sell mine for me then i could get a newer one
i got WRX 01 51 plate 25000 miles EU import already in this country with all the paper work uk spec for 11,000 so if he is right i will sell mine on and make a killing

OK as I've said before, I have yet to see it let alone part with any cash. I'm not gonna say too much till I've seen it but I still think I could end up getting a bargain here.

Firstly lets not forget I'm paying 8.4k not the 9.5k. Its also only done 36kms (22k miles) which if can be verified by the paperwork should add a grand to the average selling price.

I noticed the wheels but I think i'm right in saying the early JDM fuglys came with these as standard. They are the same as 98/99 wheels but in anthrasite. Either way I have some MY01 UK WRX wheels and even some late UK STI wheels to bung on if need be.

As for the damage well thats the least of my worries as I can do the work myself and get the spray work done for next to nothing. All in all if the paperwork checks out I reckon I could have it on the road for nine grand.

I have to admit though its not the bargain I first thought it was. I had no idea how much they've dropped in recent months. Wether I keep it or try to sell it for around 11k I don't know.

I would walk away from that, it has obvoilsy been in a front end prang, and how much has been repaired allready ?. and to what standard, if it is a botched repair it will not pass the sva. that is probably the reason the guy is trying to offload te car as he knows the true cost of getting it on the road again.

you may think you are saving ££££, but its quite possible the complete reverse. if you want a wrx look a this.

My 02 Wagon WRX (grey import) was £9600 private from the Trader.

37K miles which is a little high, but was imported new so full history.

Needs 2 new front fogs (cracked) and a paint job on the rear wheel arch (strange damage, but just paint not body). So for probably less than 10K a mint car with full history.

You have to ask why, if it's such an easy job, why he doesn't do it himself and sell it undamaged?

15K is ridiculous - maybe for a mint UK car, but imports are cheaper and harder to sell. I plan on keeping mine maybe 5 years so resale value for me isn't an issue.

IMHO don't touch it and don;t even view it. Body work looks shagged. Reckon it's a stolen crashed and recovered car.

Also look at the dials - think thy're from a WRX blob eye not a bug eye - didn't all bug eye's have a central speedo and the rev counter to the side where as this one looks like my WRX 03 (albeit in KM/h).

I got my MY01 WRX imported new from Japan and it also has these wheels, so they are the least of your worries!

Also, my rev counter is in the center...

Do you know BHP these MY01 imports are supposed to be?

Don't you have to convert the speedo to mph? Doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere.
