Smile Impreza Petrol Gauge, whats going on

Is my sender unit faulty?

I can drive 170 miles before the needle gets to half full. Anything over that and whoosh.....

it drops like a lead balloon! Or is this some strange Japanese logarithmic scale that isnt covered in the manual?

Only had the car a couple of weeks and I am really pleased with it, just find this a little odd.

I've only had my wagon 2 weeks and I've noticed that!! Mind you, there isn't a car I've ever owned that the 1st quarter of the tank lasts twice as long as the last quarter

Just another one of those little gems that add to enjoyment that is scooby ownership.
A bit like knowing every shell garage in a 50 mile radius of you house and knowing every attendant in each by first name as you see them so often.

LOL - Yes I now have a season ticket at the petrol station. Every time I walk through the door they look at me as if to say 'You again??'.

My fault though, driving it every where!

Just think of all the excuses you have to go to the Shell garage though!

Your turbo has two fuel senders, one on either side of the tank through an inspection hatch, each side. Either live with it or spend an hour or two looking at the operation and adjustment of each sender.
Adjustment= Bend wire float arm to sender unit if you are lucky.

Think I will just have to live with it as it is. I could make it worse!! Strange to send cars out of the factory like that though. Every thing else is superb.

It's the Optimistic Scooby approach - make you feel like your not using much fuel in the first half of the tank and then when your to busy having fun after the half way (cos you think you've done well and you can put your foot down), it takes it all away

Yep thats it. I was talking to a mate who has been saying 'you will be pouring petrol in all the time!'. I pointed him to the gauge and said 'look 160 miles on half a tank better fuel economy than your golf'.

Going to have to fill it up everytime I call round to see him now LOL
