Hi,
I accidentally started to format a floppy containing some important documents and now it refuses to be read (FAT damage ?)
I've downloaded and tried a trial program on the net called BadCopy Pro and that says the necessary files are recoverable, trouble is that I have to register it at the cost of 40USD and this seems rather pointless for this one occassion.
Can anybody help or point me to a place where I may be able to use an alternative method free or for a nominal charge ?
Please reply ASAP
Thanks, Jai

If you can get hold of a copy of PC Tools, Norton Utilities or First Aid (all old DOS versions) I think they all have file and disk recovery tools to repair files that have been accidentally deleted or the disk formatted.
I think I have Norton Utilities for DOS, but it's in the loft somewhere so have about zero chance of finding it, sorry![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
At least you know what sort of thing to look for now

Jai, if the contents of the floopy disk was important then stump up the $40 (about £25).
There are loads of simlar programs but I think you will be lucking to find one for free. try www.download.com

depends on what version of windows your using, but try using the UNFORMAT or UNDELETE commands from the command prompt.. You may need to boot a later version of MS-DOS 5+ so do a search on kazza...
whilst you have kazza open search for recovery software
