Ok check this out.....

This morning had to go into the office (80ish miles up the M6) so I stopped at my Local shell station and topped up with optimax (Oh no not another Skoda top trump) and I set off....

This evening I stopped at the same Shell on the way back some 167.9 miles later and topped up again 21.7 litres.

Calculation = 21.7 x 0.219969 = 4.77 gallons

167.9 miles / 4.77 gallons = 35.17

I am currently sitting down scatching my head... could someone check the figures for me please.

Oh yeah.... MY99 UK Turbo keeping it between 60 - 70mph Although this was a little hard on the M6 with the stop and start nature of the traffic. I did intentionally start out to see just how good MPG I could get but I was not expecting this, anyone else had similar figures, I didn't crawl along but I was very carfull not to let it go over 3k rpm.

And before you start.... Yes I am just on my way out to burn some fuel and make up for all that sesible driving today.

You're right, I can't believe it either.

Only 35mpg, that's awful, I usually get 38mpg at least.

Check it out asap as there must be something wrong with your car.

My standard MY02 is still tight (under 2.5k miles). I've had 30mpg on a tank, and that was generally going along at 80-85 on SUL, with a bit of A road cruising at 65ish - all along a very long private road, of course

 

never been anywhere near the magic 30 number

i must be doin something right then!

must have something to do with, goin to a job on the motorway and then plotting the best A & B road trip back. It just has to be done ;D

Your maths is spot on

If you didn't fill up to exactly the same level, e.g. rely on pump cutoff which could trigger at a different level, then you might have used 5 gallons which gives 33.5mpg not as impressive but still pretty good.

This is too small a sample to be really accurate. However motorway driving these days at constant (max possible ) 60 gives some of the best figures I've ever had.

 

I did 102miles on less than a 1/4 of a tank worked out about 14.5 ltrs to the brim (and i mean full! ) so you must be looking at that sort of mileage

I did 160 miles on 55 litres on my way back from the ring last weekend in the Germany/Belgium part of the run. 12.8 MPG

I did 260 miles on 50 litres on the same journey once in the UK. 22MPG

Thats the only good thing about our lower motorway speed limits.

 

looks about right to me....


using 4.54 litres per gallon (which is I believe correct) it comes out at about 35.127 mpg... Not a lot less than my 1.9TDi audi does!

I thought all along that one gallon is 3,78 liters. From my calculation your mileage would be 29,4 mpg. That is still pretty good and would be consistent with staying around 2900 rpm.

I generally get about 300 miles on a full £37 tank of Optimax....... I think that equates to about 29.7mpg.......

Thats driven "averagely" Mostly about 4000rpm (80mph) on the way to work with the occasional blast....

managed 311 miles on a tank, couldnt believe it normally get about 260..

 

Best I've seen from my MY00 with PPP on SUL is 260 off a full tank. Normally average around 220. I don't want to know what the MPG as it will make me cry.

 

Yep I'd say that's about right. Get sbout 220 on a Sti IV Type R on a full tank of Optimax. Ahh the price we pay for fun.

 

You all drive like women I get max 200-205 per tank usually 180-190 though, in a MY99. Thats anywhere from 15-20mpg weekly No motorway though.

 

yep, have to agree with bioforger, i have never seen the boring side of 200 miles per tank!!!!!!!!

 

As I said at the start it was merely an experiment... on average I get 15 - 20mpg
