Hi lads, this is my restrictor, can someone please confirm that this is not standard... and is there any reason (ie: if previous owner had boost mods, overboost probs etc) why it would be nesscacary to replace it with something so large???

That is certainly not standard!

 

I was under the impression than a smaller restrictor would give more boost and a larger orrifice would make it perform like a wet f@rt.

It's definteley not standard. The one in my RB5 is brass, with a groove around the entire circumference. It's also pointy at both ends.

thx lads, has any one any idea why this would be used to replace a standard restrictor... as ozzy siad all it will do is reduce boost!!! Im wondering if it was part of other mods the previous owner performed, although from speaking to him b4 i bought the car he siad he hadnt performed any, and on his previous scoob it was sent to GGR from Ireland for mods, so im assuming hes not a bodger!!!

Im in the process of ordering a new restrictor and vacuum line so we'll see if I notice any diff?

Still doesn't make sense with size of hose though, if the internal diameter of your restrictor is 4.1mm.......

spoke to my local dealer about getting a factory standard restrictor... dumbfounded, its not listed as a part so he can t get me one... now i know its not the end of the world and a restrictor can be made up no probs but why isnt it listed he even showed me the exploded view diagram of boost solenoids and tubing etc... no where...

Well ive an MY00 PPP'd turbo with d/p and my restrictor is now 1.3mm, it use to be 1.2 and before that it was even smaller (i think) so i dont think yours is quite right somehow

It is listed on the Subaru parts computer I've seen it myself when I was trying to get my dealer to order one. However, the part number was correct, but the part that arrived was the straight hose!
