Righty, we are kinda killing tis thread, sorry Scoobywont. Kaspersky is a reasonable AV and cheap even if you can't get it for free. At the end of the day it's mostly about being vigilant, especially when fapping to **** or stealing digital content online (not that I'm saying you do either, lol).

Cybercriminals, fraudsters and cyberterrorists are getting pretty smart with their latest attacks so stay safe out there on ze interwebs!

Not misleading at all, I can guarantee you that you would be safer using a Macintosh and that was my advice. Nothing is 100% safe, but give someone a Windows PC and a Mac with no additional security software and see which is infected first.

I'm sat here right now using a 2006 iMac, every year or so I scan it, nothing detected, no doubt you'll try to tell me I'm somehow making that up and a Windows machine would be equally safe.

I have used Norton (was a nightmare as wormed its way into everything), kaspersky and AVG. Freeones were ok, to be fair. I now use Windows defender and just use my head regarding what I open via mail, websites etc.....

MSE for me and a bit of common sense when surfing the net.

I often scan my PC very regularly, infact I won't even go into my online bank account unless I've scanned it with MSE and Malewarebytes first.

There's no substitute for sensible browsing/downloading.

I've got no real loyalty to any particular AV tool, but providing you've got a frequent scheduled scan combined with a real time scanner running - you're well on your way.

Mac owners are pretty vulnerable right now compared to users on an updated Windows 8 system, mainly because of their ignorance as they still think that nobody "writes virusus for Macs".

I use NOD32 on one pc and paid for AVG on another, i use THIS also on both as a stand alone extra [read ****] bit of security, costs nothing and doesn't clog up the pc with bloated [norton] software.

I wish I had known that. I bought my new laptop last year, and now I know why Staples sold me McAfee for dirt cheap with it.

Good thread about antivirus software, but bad to see Jack Clark banned for something as petty as his Mac glorification in the context.

Anyway. I will try to get McAfee off and get Nod next time for my normal laptop.
