lol you want to read this one about one guy who moans saying the 2015 is slow compared to others

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2627285

entertaining read

one of my highlights is one guy saying:

im not comparing the new ones to mine, im comparing them stock to stock. i am just saying the test drive probably wont be that amazing for me as i am used to the power of my car.

the response

What do you need more power for? So you can street race and get arrested on the way to getting groceries?

Isn't the thread all about the US MY15 WRX with the direct injection 268bhp engine starting at around $27k (£17k). Which is an absolute snip and has 6 speed in it. Or have I miss read it, as very little mention of the STI.

there's loads of different threads some with the WRX and some with the STI on, good to read views of people that actually own them

I was told today there is a £500 additional cost for colours, what colour comes as no cost option then and why couldn't I find the additional cost on their website last time I looked?

Just because you have paid doesn't mean anything, negativity reduces people's enjoyment on a site and will lead to them not visiting and the site not growing, like a few of the other "paid" and old people that now wear the "banned" symbol, don't troll it's not entertaining,

this isn't facebook and I will be honest here I don't need to read your rubbish, notice how no one really posts after your posts? Don't be a dick, if you want to troll go find another site if we wanted another marquee we certainly wouldn't be on here
Because I dont like the new Subaru WRX STi im not a true Subaru enthusiast??? So every Subaru made is brilliant and we should all love it because it has a Subaru badge??? I love my hawkeye STi(sometimes more then my missus) even though some people hate the hawkeye as it has the dodgy 2.5 engine and crappy lexus style rear lights!!!

Im not trying to come over negative over the new car as I havent seen one on the road or driven one yet so cant comment, and its not the new WRX STi I have a problem with which you seem to think I have(even though it could do with a bit more power.)

I dont like the way Subaru has evolved over the years(cars have shown it and sales), the company has in my view gone backwards instead of forwards, and the amount of showrooms that have closed and cars sold over the last few years has shown that.

Im not trying to troll, im just trying to have a discussion with like minded enthusiasts but your getting on your high horse and calling me a d1ck and telling me to log off a site ive been on for over 10 years because you dont like my opinions!!

I hope the new WRX STi is brilliant, and they sell loads, but because of past cars over the last 6-7 years with 2.5 litre engine problems, Subaru's bad customer service, high road tax, other manufacturers making just as good enough cars for less money, that I have my doubts!!!

XDevil666 try and be nice now, I haven't called you names, im just trying to have a discussion about Subaru's in which I do love apart from they take up all my time, money and cause arguments between me and the missus!!

They may all be linked to poor fuel or low oil weak blocks, or cars being driven like they are stolen, but they are just not as strong as a 2.0 or 2.2CDB, fact.
The point here though is that subaru haven't improved the engine and drive train in over 8 years (20+ years for the Datsun rear diff but if it works don't change it, lol). So progress has stood still and it was far from optimum when it stopped, having gone backwards to the 2.5ODB.

Don't get me wrong they are still fantastic value and fun to drive but they need to be looked after and fed the best fluids and drivers need to learn when the engine is telling them to back off.

Come on Subaru we need some innovation and more bang for our bucks.
This guy has hit the nail on the head^^^^^^^^^^ And judging by his picture he has a newer shape STi with the 2.5, Funny how its a lot of owners who have the 2.5 fitted to there cars that are put off from the newer shape WRX STi.

So my question is, how many owners who have previous Impreza's with the 2.5 litre engine are going to order/thinking of ordering the brand new WRX STi???

I will order when I get a car with better performance than my MY11. Definitely not going down in power. A weekend in Snowdonia just confirmed it for me.

Also own a modded Terzo from new!

This thread has become hilarious in my absence.

"You must like all Subarus or you are a traitor to the marque" seems to be the mantra of certain posters on here!

I love this sort of single marque blindness, it makes me laugh. It's the same sort of simplistic thinking that also seems to go hand in hand with slagging off any other marque and seems unusually prevalent when it comes to Subaru fanatics!

Real petrolheads have their favourites across many marques, but neither are they blind to the fallings of certain models in all those various marques either.

In the case of Subaru I owned 5 across a 17 year span, 4 of which were purchased new. I enjoyed the increasingly iconic status of the classic from 1996 (when I first purchased my first) to 2001, a time when the car was untouchable in terms of performance for the cost.

I remember being at a customer's site when the fire alarm went off and when we all congregated in the car park the lads from the factory unit next door were all crowded round my car.

I remember a business colleague of mine who had a tuned Cavalier SRI driving my car and then complaining that ever since it felt like the handbrake was on in his

Great times... a truly great car.... and I was a confirmed fanatic.... and joined this board way back in Feb 1999!

Fast forward to 2007 and finally things started to unwind for me. In my opinion the hatch was one of the worst cars, aesthetic design wise, I have ever seen especially in STI form, it is fussy and doesn't flow at all... the front of the car is truly hideous. It is true that Imprezas have never been beautiful cars, but previous incarnations at least looked purposeful and aggressive.. this was and is a dog's dinner... all in my opinion of course!

That said I could just about have forgiven it that if it was head and shoulders above the competition and the previous models and although in some ways it was crucially for the UK fan base in raw performance terms it wasn't and the sales even allowing for the recession showed that (only Renault statistically enjoyed a sales slump anywhere near as bad as Subaru and that was in part due to them withdrawing from certain sectors of the market).

Then came the engine issue and the extremely poor handling of it by IM and Subaru in the UK. If you actually read the thread at the top of the page there are plenty of engines going bang on standard cars with no messing so this myth that certain people on here are starting to perpetuate about it only being an issue on cars where the owner has tuned them or messed with them is nonsense and dishonest!

So fast forward to 2014 and now we have a new model with a marginally better design than the outgoing one in terms of aesthetics, but all indicators point to the fact it is still going to have the same engine and therefore potentially the same issues. To rub salt in the wounds Subaru proudly claim a five year warranty on all models.... except the WRX STI.... how utterly tragic is that!

Therefore you will have to excuse me if I cannot wholeheartedly recommend someone buy one of these 'fine new WRX STIs' until we know the full story with the engine. I am still an enthusiast of the marque, but common sense has to come before brand loyalty and anyway brand loyalty is only worth maintaining if the brand in question keeps its side of the bargain and keeps producing desirable products.

Leaving aside many other issues such as the fact the car no longer represents the performance bargain it once was the engine issue is for me the biggest unknown and potentially still a massive one.

This notion that has grown up around the 2008 onwards STI of not worrying about it until it happens and then chucking £3k at it to fix it is ridiculous as most normal sane people do not want to be chucking £3k into a car to fix an issue that should not be there in the first place.

If this is still the case with a brand new model then that is downright criminal of Subaru and one can only hope it turns out not to be the case! However until that is 100% confirmed I will continue to warn people off... if that makes me a traitor or a non-enthusiast of the marque in some people's eyes then so be it!

Totally agree, who would buy a car and expect to spend 3k on an engine build on it?!?! If it had done 300k then maybe, but on a low mileage standard car, or even mildly tweaked it should not be an issue at all.

A new car shouldnt need anything spent on it for a very long time other than consumables!

I would imagine many people have spent 4-5k on a car engine been rebuilt

The 2.5 engine 2008 modles now second hand must be dropping on price to 8/9k retail
7k trade in for garages but now after market warrenty company's won't want to touch them with a barge pole for the potential cost of rebuilds
Also garages will have To put a big mark up on them to cover any issues making them not price competitive and will be reluctant to take them in on px on tight deals and margins
,
Intersting in one of the motoring magazine Subaru have had I think the third biggest decrease in sales in the last few years
