You pay your money and take your chances, I have 63k on my MY11. There is loads of evidence of 2.5s failing. Just talk to any of the specialists and they will real off the same problems. Chocolate pistons, head gaskets failing, liners dropping and bottom ends picking up. They may all be linked to poor fuel or low oil weak blocks, or cars being driven like they are stolen, but they are just not as strong as a 2.0 or 2.2CDB, fact.
The point here though is that subaru haven't improved the engine and drive train in over 8 years (20+ years for the Datsun rear diff but if it works don't change it, lol). So progress has stood still and it was far from optimum when it stopped, having gone backwards to the 2.5ODB.

Don't get me wrong they are still fantastic value and fun to drive but they need to be looked after and fed the best fluids and drivers need to learn when the engine is telling them to back off.

Come on Subaru we need some innovation and more bang for our bucks.

Subaru don't care about us here in the UK. What we know as Subaru here is a company that imports them, along with other brands such as Great Wall.

We are a fraction of a percentage of Subaru's overall sales and in order to keep profit margins healthy and emissions "compliant" (yeah I know, lol) we are fobbed off with an engine that is, it would appear, in stock form not up to the job.

The only innovation [edit - with respect to the engine on the STi] we get is from the Prodrives, Cosworths and other respected tuning companies who enable us to drive competitive cars in an increasingly talented market.

It was good news for anyone who had bolloxed their 2.0 classics engine though. Powerstation had a supply of shiny new 2003 spec mega strong STI bottom ends to shift.
Correct most early MK1's versions ended up being overhauled between 15-30k miles so doubt many on original bits, but possibly 1 or 2. My mk1 T25 is now on second rebuild at 95K miles

I'm getting a new Subaru next

Think this forum should change its name to classic scooby only. Because all I read is slagging off newbie scoobys. Maybe people should read the very first message on this Fred by hulk and read how happy he was to join this forum and become a scooby owner. But seem like everyone just give him a big kick in the nuts and now he canceled his new car.
I sought of agree with you as quite a few that slate off the new 2.5ltr Subaru's would NEVER ever buy one even if it was a 2.0ltr

I think I'm entitled to have a moan, See my profile as I've owned only 2 classics and 4 newage. Out of that 6 two were brand new, the two were under 3months old.

I presently own a 2011 2.5l saloon & 2005 2.5ltr T25

Tony

Your right in 2005 uk Subaru Impreza market was probably close to 20% of world wide Impreza sales. In 2011 uk Impreza sales were more like 0.02% for that year. If they have sold all the 2014 it's still under 1%

So we have no clout at all.

IMHO IIRC

Anyone know what engine the JDM model has this time around? The Japanese Subaru website looks like it's a 2.5 over there too..

Hi mate - I'm keeping the Focus for now and seeing what news (if any) comes out about the reliability of these new Sti's. However - I'm pretty peeved to have cancelled, as the deal I had been given was fantastic. The dealer gave me a really strong (but fair) price for my RS in January and promised to hold that figure until I took delivery of the Subaru in May.

I'm going to be even more upset if the UK car-press are as positive as the Yanks were on the car. I'll be sat screaming at the television no doubt "I had me one of those!"

The yanks were "fobbed off" with that engine too remember and their Subaru sales must be massive compared to ours.

AFAIK there has been no mention on the Subaru Japan website about the 2015 WRX STi for Japan.

Current interest over there is the new Levorg sports tourer.

The current WRX STi comes in two versions:- manual 2.0L twin scroll or automatic 2.5L "A-Line" version.

Yes and saved him a lot of potential heartache whereas presumably you would rather him spend his money and if he has issues with the car you would give him the £3K to sort it out yes?

Did you mention about the engine because you care about someone you never met or it's because you like the sound of your own voice and love slagging off the 2.5 at every possible chance, no mention on how the car look or how it handles just look it has a 2.5 let's slag it off.
Give subaru a chance, they now returning the wrx back to the uk and I think this is a good thing and the new wrx looks great, feeling a bit sorry for hulk

I've gotta be honest, I wouldn't have cancelled it. Yeah there are documented issues with the EJ25 but it's far from guaranteed, that and you'll have a 3 year warranty so that should cover you. No sense in not buying a car you want because it might break.

No I mentioned it because weirdos like you keep trying to tell people there is no issue when there is! As for the looks it's hideous. The once great marque is dead frankly, bloody sad when you look where they were ten years ago!

Well theres a surprise. F1 saying exactly the same thing that he has since 2008. We've heard it all before, now change the record. Looks are completely subjective so I doubt any cares what you think it looks like anyway. Do you believe people read any one of your repetitive posts about any one of the new cars and say to themselves "F1 doesn't like the look of it so it must be ugly because he's always right"

You've said your bit (thousands of times), you've no idea whether the new car will or will not have issues, and has been mentioned before by others, you wouldn't buy a new one in any case. You'd always manage to invent a reason not to.

This is a Subaru forum. Not a 'I'm always moaning about Subaru' forum. Why not go post 16k times on another AMG forum.

But the supplying dealer I was buying from is nearly 4 hours travel away. And what about keeping the car after 3 years? £30,000 is a lot of money to spend on a car that you daren't keep past warranty.

But, on the other hand you are also saying what I am still thinking - that I maybe should have just gotten it and tried to just enjoy it.

Gutted.

Already post on an AMG forum thanks! Anyway none of your pathetic little whining jibes will make any difference as my opinion is just that... my opinion and it is at least backed up with experience and facts not just blind devotion for a single marque like yours .... oh AND I am free to state it just as you are free to write your drivel!

We're all well aware what your opinion is. Quite why you feel the need to continually repeat it is something you never divulge. Funny that. Let me have guess then:

Nothing better to do. (16k posts an indication of that)
Nothing better to do.
Secretly wish you had a new car.
Nothing better to do (have I mentioned that?)
Nothing better to do (am I repeating myself?)

The experience you talk about - you've had a post 08 car then have you? I've had two, neither of which has had a single issue. That's my experience.
Blind devotion - I've in the last month taken delivery of the Mrs' new A Class, and a new Mk7 Golf, which replaced a 5 series. So, no 'blind devotion for a single marque' then.

Its you that whines and talks the same drivel over and over. Why not stop posting on here if your AMG is so great and you hate Subaru so much? Come on then, tell us, why do you have to repeat it continually?

Yeah I can see the travel to a dealer being a ball ache. As for keeping it past the warranty, you do have the option to extend the warranty or take out an after market one.

Having heard similar Internet scare stories about the Astra VXR, I have to say its something to bare in mind if you buy one but not something to make base the actually buying decision on.

You see that's the funny thing, whenever a topic comes up about Scoobs on the Merc forums everyone praises them (well the crappy 2.5 hatch aside obviously ). That's because most other single marque forums including Merc/AMG are populated by proper petrolheads who appreciate there are good cars in most marques rather than some of myopic w4nkers we get on SN!

I keep repeating it because it does not sink in to your thick skull. Well done btw as you were lucky, as said I know three people who have had 2.5 engine failures! But it's a cracking engine and you're right to encourage people to buy one

You've been repeating since way before I was unfortunate enough to notice. Obviously took a while for it to sink into my thick head.

Read any of my posts and not once will I have encouraged anyone to buy a car that I at least haven't owned myself. Not once have I encouraged anyone to buy a new 2014 STi. Why?, because I haven't had one. Just like you.
Most of the guys on here are big boys, old enough and wise enough to make there own mind up. They certainly don't need your continual repetitive posts despite what you might think. Pity we're not all as clever as you.

Yep, the most sensible thing you've said so far

It's a forum and if people discuss something and opinions are encouraged l(you know like the whole premise of a forum) then they are going to get them, mine included!!!

Sorry, you find that so unacceptable!
