I think it's going from a lighter 2.0 to the heavier, more insulated 2.5. I remember when I got my hawk Sti new after having a 2.0 wrx (04). It felt to smooth, no punch in the back and really quiet. It's real world performance was actually much better as it was so torquey. A change of exhaust and remap soon sorted it, but it seems with subaru's to make them what we want they need 'add ons', even from new.

Are you saying that its better to spend nearly £3k extra on an older second hand car, with only 3 doors, to save £200 a year in road tax? So if you keep the car 3 years you've made up £600 of the £3000. Sorry, but don't see the logic there. In any case, spending this kind of money then worrying about an extra £200 a year is
Anyway the Audi was just a quick search what you can get for around £30k which I would consider over the Impreza, not saying its any better as I havent driven a brand new Impreza yet.

10 years ago i would have choose the Impreza all day long, but as time has gone on all the other manufacturers have got better/or caught up, The impreza is no longer king of the B-road thrash!! when the classic STi Impreza was king in the early 2000's you could worry a supercar and laugh at middle aged men in there E46 M3's, now in 2014 you have to worry some granny/mom in a little hatchback hasnt had a secret remap on her Astra VXR, Megane RS250 or Focus ST!!!
I dont hate the new Impreza, but I think since the Hawk they have tried to hard with trying to give it a nice exterior and a nice interior with all the gadgets to compete against the prestige range like Audi, Merc etc where they have no chance of trying to get there owners switching!! What happened to the old Subaru where the designed basic cars with a stonking engine and gearbox and didnt make it heavy with sat nav, electric seats, etc etc

The steering wheel is going to be writhing around like a greasy python.

I test drove the new audi and it wasn't great, I left sad... Comparing it to my old scoob it seemed quite gutless, I know it's 300bhp but the punch wasn't there......
Nice inside though leaps ahead...

What dont you see??? its not just about the road tax, your spending a extra £3k on a Audi and not a Subaru, proper warranty for start! You try getting Subaru to fix your engine under warranty when its broke, take it to Audi bet they wont get half as much trouble getting them to replace it under warranty, plus the Audi is lighter and has the same power output as the STi which annoys me as a 14 year old classic STi would be quicker, try a 14 year old S3 against the current S3 and it wouldnt be anywhere near it.
Anyway the Audi was just a quick search what you can get for around £30k which I would consider over the Impreza, not saying its any better as I havent driven a brand new Impreza yet.

This isn't a comparison site this celebrates the continuation of subaru in the UK

Have Subaru ever claimed they keep power low because the majority of owners add aftermarket parts? It enables Subaru to competitively price their cars?
Mitsubishi kinds did it with the EVO RS: crap wheels, brakes and seats etc etc. Cheaper to buy with scope for personal modding.

The best thing about an Audi is the quality of the cabin.
No one can disagree that the German car companies have quality interiors.
The issues is that most are not great to drive and if you want real performance you have to shell out a fortune.
Another issues is that figures seem to be the name of the game just now.
S3 300bhp
Golf R 300bhp
RS3 335bhp
BMW 135i 316bhp
Ok all very impressive with the figures but this does not make a car.
The best three handling cars I have owned over the years were as follows
Renault Clio Williams 150bhp
Renault R26R 230bhp
Subaru Impreza Turbo 215bhp
My only worry about the new Impreza is the weight gain "which is bound to happen with the new safety installed in new cars" but anyone thinking the Subaru should have more BHP are wrong IMO.
If the foundations of the car are not sorted "RS3" no amount of BHP will hide this fact.

Is it not a good thing that other car makers have caught up with Subaru? We have more to choose from and if you want a saloon with very good 4x4 and a boxer engine then you go to Subaru .
And why do people always point out that Subaru where making faster cars in time gone by. Does no one remember the top gear episode where they put cars against there same make aquivilant but of a different era . There was fords/nissan z cars and so on. And the age of the car didn't have a direct link to where thay finished. They also compared supper cars of old and new/rally cars of old and new and there was no pattern there either.
Subaru are no different to any other car maker, they all have there up and down moments. Merc use to have one of the worst customer services and a shoddy build quality. Mitsubishi made a very reliable car with the evo but the warrior engines just blow up for fun.

Probably been posted but Mark Higgins is going to have another go at further breaking the IOM TT circuit time in the MY15 WRX STI. Be interesting if he beats the MY11 time. Looks like he has a few more mods.

<<<<<<<< Look how many posts I have and how long ive been on this site newbie. Your not even a paid up member, so how about stop being a cheap skate and pay to support the Subaru community instead of b1tching about someone not getting wet over the brand new shape Impreza. Not everyone will love it, but as a forum you can express your opinions!!!

Just because you have paid doesn't mean anything, negativity reduces people's enjoyment on a site and will lead to them not visiting and the site not growing, like a few of the other "paid" and old people that now wear the "banned" symbol, don't troll it's not entertaining,
this isn't facebook and I will be honest here I don't need to read your rubbish, notice how no one really posts after your posts? Don't be a dick, if you want to troll go find another site if we wanted another marquee we certainly wouldn't be on here
