Wow you must of been round Subarus for maybe 100 years because I've had Subarus for 11 years now and that seems like I am new to Subarus to you. Look maybe they have failed a bit but markets change . I was just reading something about evos and wounderd why the X didn't do as well because they seem to have got better each time but then it just stopped. If Subaru just stuck to the old recipe then it would be a 400 bhp shell. These days kia's come with park assistant/camera's/air con/blue tooth/and so on. It would have to compete with BMW /Audi and they have the image. How in this age with all the snobbery and Nancy pambey tech loving spikey haired **** can you sell the old recipe. There just not cool and people are willing to get finance for the rest of there life so they look good in there m3. It may be in different market now but that alone does not make it a bad car.

As I detailed half way through the thread Engines should last and the 2.5 is going pop amd is a ticking time bomb I'm afraid
Thats why there was only 137 STi sold 2/3 years ago

I've been in the scene for 14 years and still have my original classic which is going through many new phases to preserve it like many others on here

Clubs are reducing in numbers ,most just have a handful of purists left now as no new blood is coming to the marque with newer cars
Soon we will just be a handful of 40/50 /60 year old blokes talking about the past

I ran the NBO for 11 years which used to get over 430 cars and has slowly dropped to 300 last few years

I've retired from it now although working on something new for the future And the new club I'm in is expanding rapidly as we have people with various cars ,still 40% scoobys but any newbys are in different cars now
Good that you have been woth the marque for 11 years
Best advice is to keep the one you have as it will be rare sight in the roads soon

But if subarus could gave me a 7 year warrenty like a 8k kia the cheque book is in the table ready to sign as its a fine looking machine and sensible price too and fast enough for me

I have a large amount of sympathy for the dealers to be honest. I think the hand that Subaru have dealt them over the past five years has been a difficult one. From all I hear, Mangoletsi seem to be a good outlet but the picture they paint certainly doesn't gel with the many tales I have heard and witnessed over recent times. The engine failure rate 08> is alarming. Can it ever be right that potential buyers seem to accept its the norm to factor in a forged engine build when buying?

Like many other enthusiasts, its sad to not now be able to trust the brand. If they had turned the corner, faced up to some of the many issues, then there would be absolutely no question that I for one would have the latest Subaru on my drive.

Scooby's are addictive and the fact that so many have walked away just shows what a mess they have made of a once iconic car.

I've no doubt I'd still be in an STI if Subaru had addressed the engine issues.
I got rid of my 330S and to be honest couldn't wait to see the back of it.

I was a long standing customer of Subaru for approx. 15 years and had 5 brand new cars from them during that time.

But what happened to evos? they made a better car year on year and offered a range of bhp . I am not sure it had any issues like engine failures but not aware of any. I respect the older members and take what they say as Gospel. I just think that mistakes have been made but its just one of many issues. The market IMO has changed and not just performance cars but look what happened to ford with the mondeo, every where you looked there use to be one. They just got better and better and then all of a sudden people just started buying 3 series BMW . The reason for buying a car has changed for a lot of people and the MARKET IMO has changed. The new Sti is being sold to a new group of buyers,but this alone doesn't make it a bad car. The warranty they offer is not confidence inspiring but the car is well priced and I think looks very good. They also offer a manual box and 4x4 in a saloon which is still a good recipe . I just hope they have sorted the issues with the engine out. In the same way that they just took a wrong turn one day,maybe just maybe they have made another turn but in the right direction.

Look, Subaru got greedy.
They wanted to enter the US market, and hence the 2.5 was born as the 2.0 couldn't cope with the US fuel.

The EVO - I' thought they'd stopped production of it?
The prices were ridiculous too

For built-in peace of mind, every vehicle (excluding WRX STi) marketed by Subaru (UK) Ltd is covered by a 5 Year/100,000 mile (whichever is sooner) Limited Warranty (applies to Powertrain items only). Bodywork is covered by a 12 Year Anti-Corrosion Warranty. Paintwork is covered by a 3 Year Warranty.

The dealer says my car is still available if I still wanted it.
I was offered such a fantastic deal (a deal still on the table after talking to the dealer yesterday) that it's hard NOT to get the car still.

However, the current situation work-wise means that I would be unwise at the minute to throw money at a new car. At least that's what I keep telling myself anyway.



I'm running through all scenarios in my mind to try and make a balanced decision on what to actually do. I really am wanting that Sti, but it seems from opinions on here that I would be clinically insane to buy the Subaru.

It's funny - if I hadn't joined this forum after I put a deposit down on the Subaru months ago I would be happily looking forward to getting the keys in a few weeks.

If you wan't it just buy the thing. You'll have 3 years warranty on it and even then there's still no guarantee the engine will die.

Fair enough, there no guarantee the engine wont **** itself, but there is no guarantee that the warranty will be honoured either.


Hulkster - I'm surprised the car is still forsale given the way the demand for the vehicle was being promoted on here,.
If you want the car, then go purchase the thing.
Your money at the end of the day...........

Can I ask what the thought is regarding how hard the Sti has been driven in the various reviews on utube ?

No reports on any engines packing in after numerous red-line runs round various roads/racetracks?

they did it with the OLD sti, did the ring and lots of things.....Youd never know anyway if it had shat itself.

I know when they did the Isle of Man they changed the engine slightly unsure why prob Pistons.

Its typical Subaru sales bollocks, the cars aint selling if you can still get yours
Now I had a slight Panic on my A45 being told it may be dalyed by a forum guy, but im locked in the system, and as you can see Merc have sold out till July and wont take any orders now..

I think its highly unlikely that the new car's engine is exactly the same as the last one. As far as I know an update was made to the previous car's engine in other markets last year, so after the last 08 on STi was sold in GB.

Why didn't you get one instead of the A45 then? They all need Super unleaded anyway.

Mate - I didn't need persuading to buy. I slapped down nearly £900 MONTHS ago as a deposit and was looking forward to getting one. What date did I start this thread?!?

Then I found out the UK wasn't getting any of the 1000 launch editions.
Then you lot began warning me of the engine, and forced me to think again.
End of.

All in all, I feel I've made the correct decision to cancel. But I'm still gutted. And I'll be even more cross if after a year or so, there are no reports of problems and the car gets glowing reviews from everyone. Especially when my cracking deal will be long gone and my RS value has possibly vastly decreased? Who knows?

Wanted the A45. The GOLF and S3 for me were very nice but in the back of my mind the 45 was what i wanted. So i pushed the boat out.

And you have hulk in my opinion, look at the other cars from the current super hatch race, one of them will tick your boxes and be within budget. And ill also,not cost you the earth in tax and reward with better MPG and toys

Thehulkster699 I've just spent 10 mins looking on Google for Subaru engine failures from 2010 onwards. I could not find ONE,there was the odd one that lived in Canada in -30/-40 and had mods but no even worth mentioning(was a forester). I think you should spend half-hour on Google looking for your self. If you carnt find any then go for it , don't let people twist facts and exaggerate things LOOK FOR YOUR SELF. It was the internet that put you off, now give it a chance to correct the balance.
