Anyone wanna buy an Impreza, engine is out and detailed above!!
Am seriously f**ked off.
Right the manifold will NOT allow the engine to be fitted as it sits too far forwards, so lifted the gearbox up as far as physically possible, and as I was standing on something to try and get further in the engine bay I slipped off and my knee created this.
But am severely frustrated, pi$$ed off, and gutted.
Gonna leave it as it's always 1 step forwards, 2 steps back with this bloody car.
Anyways as promised I'm posing up all the good, all the bad, and everything inbetween.

Deffo. Was only due to the manifolds, the OEM one doesn't protrude, so was only them fouling the o/s bottom rad bracket. And cos they are one piece jobbies I can't split them down. So have to remove them and the turbo as one.
Now I also have to get a new wing and get it sprayed, but also repair the wrap as it got a little damaged too :'(

Engine should go in with everything on I have done a few people's imprezas now and only thing that's a little tricky is getting the box and engine at the right angle to go together but can be achieved with a jack under gear box and engine with hoist on top not sure if that helps jim but gutted for you mate
Take a day or so off and come back to it witha fresh look on it

Aw mate, gutted for you!
Hope you get renewed love for the Scoob after a days time out.
Ive had a car which was the same, 1 set forward and 2 back, and its really disheartening. I hope you stick with it mate

With the standard manifolds it's NOT an issue, as gearbox was as high as it can go on a trolley jack, so high the box was touching the firewall. The manifolds foul the o/s front rad bracket. I will attempt it again with the studs removed, but still think that I'm gonna have to pull the manifolds off with turbo, and refit once the engine is mated up. But I REALLY am starting to lose patience, as the bloody thing fights me at EVERY turn.
And I have my poor Landy, looking at me and saying "I'd not be this bad, and I haven't been so far. Why don't you finish me? I don't need a lot to finish!!" I really could say sod it, but I have to finish.

Oh and engine is more or less in, had help from everyones panto villain Dylan.
Had to remove the studs off the engine, and it went in no problems.

Well I can now say that the engine is a LOT closer to the gearbox
Driveshafts popped out and studs fitted, then tightened up and then the driveshafts fitted again, also fitted the nuts and some washers to the Engine mounts.

Having pulled my finger out a tiny bit, the engine is now mated to the gearbox, the clutch bearing has been clicked into place, all bolts/studs are done, the electrical connectors are done too.
What is left to do is this;
Fit Rad.
Fill coolant and oil.
Turn engine over to prime oil.
Gap and fit plugs.
Fit coil packs.
I also have a few broken hoses, and partially melted ones, so have bought some silicone hoses, 1m of 8mm id, 3m of 3mm id, and 2m of 5mm id.

Update.
EVERYTHING mechanically is done, all that is left is fluids and battery.
Time ran out on me today, so had to stop. Also need decent coolant.
Anyhoo here's the pics, the front intercooler hose is mentally tight with this new rad, had to squeeze it so it would fit. The cross section is the same but now a bit "modified" to say the least.
When routing the heater matrix hoses the hose was getting in the way above and below the CDF Racing pitch mount, so went through it instead
