All the drivers are going to be different for your new motherboard to the ones you were using previously on your old one, I'd be surprised if it booted up by just changing motherboards and not doing a fresh install.

A fresh reinstall and cull of programs you rarely use is as good for your pc's speed as a decent upgrade

Actually Win7 is pretty good at adjusting the OS to suit when a new mobo is installed. It will however put in standard Win7 chipset/gfx drivers to get you up and running. But it might work. Then you would just have to reinstall those drivers again.

Now if you are running XP still forget it, do a fresh install.

Yup it is very good, but usually kicks in the activation wizard again unless same make and model of mobo.

Well all the bits are here ready, I'm thinking I'll fit it all and try to boot it up and see what happens.

Well here's the before.

Plenty of room in there.
Case has a fan on the front drawing air in, rear fan pushes it out and then there's a fan on the side panel to suck out the hot air from the GPU.
Not sure if that side fan is needed. I thought the GPU was getting hot at 78degs under full load. Thinking I'll leave it on there cause of the extra SLI heat.

You should have more fans blowing in than venting out, this creates positive pressure which in some small way helps to keep dust out.....

Agree with scoobyjawa

Also, while your motherboard is coming out you should route the majority of your cables behind the mobo and use the grommets to feed them back in.

The 12v ATX 4/8 pin power cable needs to go round the back and feed it back in at the top, your sata cables can go round the back and feed them back in through the grommets, just buy longer ones if need be as their fairly cheap.

Less clutter inside the case means better air flow and cooling, all it needs is a bit of a tidy up then with the upgrades you are doing it should be a really nice setup, that Z77X D3H will look good in there as well as the Seasonic PSU which is a top PSU.

I was quite pleased with that effort (you should have seen previous builds!).
I don't think the ATX cable was quite long enough to route it round the back hence it went over the top.
I'll reverse the flow of the side fan then. I thought it would be better to suck the hot air out rather than blow in room temp air.
Would the SATA cables make that much difference? they are almost flush with the back panel?
Oh and would you guys say to keep the drive caddies out? I have had them in but removed them when I read something online about haivng them out removes restriction, but to be honest I think having them in would help stream the flow from the front fan into the back of the case. With them out the air could just get 'stuck' circulating around the caddie tray holder?

True indeed, but negative pressure keeps it cooler

Hi Rob, I forgot to take a pic. I use the PC for work so wanted to limit the downtime.
Everyone was right, BSOD when I tried to boot without a fresh install.
So fresh install, transfer over of files using Windows Easy Transfer (I'd had the forethought to do that at least).
With the seasonic PSU I can barely hear the PC is on under normal conditions. Very happy with it. Given a noticable boost in gaming performance (perhaps not as big as I'd hoped) with the additional 560Ti.
I'd forgotten how quick a fresh install of windows was.
One thing I had forgotten to do was back up my 'Windows Live Mail' emails which I used to use last year before switching over to Outlook and unfortunately Windows Easy Transfer didn't back these up.
Very impressed with the PSU and motherboard. Apart from the motherboard power cables and the PCI-E connections I only needed one more PSU connection and managed to hook up the SSD, HD and DVD on the same cord.
Took longer than I'd expected, mainly for working out how to get the CPU cooler off! As such I was rushing a little to put it all back together so wasn't as tidy as I'd have hoped. No cable ties have been used yet for instance!

When I get a spare morning I'll try tidying it up and take a pic or two.

Oh and I reversed the flow of the side case fan so it blows in now.

edit: the thing I forgot to check prior to reinstalling is the password to my readyNas. Tried all my usual ones and it's not letting me on. Bit of a pain as work isn't getting backed up yet.

Glad it all went well for you mate, that motherboard is great to work with, have you been in the bios yet ? The dual bios is great, the 3D one is impressive. Its nice and easy to install as well with clear instructions in the manual for things like front i/o panel connectors etc.

Yeh Seasonic are quality, that was good money invested.

I'm sure if I had less 'fanny' GPUs it would be damn near silent.
