boring post but I'm after a bit of help please

I've just built a new computer based around an Asus P4B533 motherboard and a Creative GF4 Ti4600 graphics card.

It boots fine and runs happily in Windows XP without a problem. However, when I start to run some intense graphics progs such as 3Dmark or a game, the motherboard starts beeping like crazy.

I've run the "Asus probe" diagnostic tool and it appears that the 3.3voltage is running low (typically 3.05V but I've seen it drop as low as 2.86V).

Do you think this low voltage is the cause of the beeping problem (no pun intended - lol) ? I have a 350W power supply which I thought would be big enough but does a Ti4600 just suck a lot of juice and I need a bigger PSU ? I don't want to rush out and buy a 480W Antec psu if I've completely misunderstood the problem and it's something else.

Also, is this 3.3volts just feeding the graphics card or does it supply other components as well ?

any help much appreciated

ta,

Andy.

p.s full spec is

ASUS P4B533 Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 2.26 GHz 533 FSB
512MB DDR333 PC2100 RAM (major brand)
Creative 3D Blaster 4 Titanium 4600 Graphics card
Western Digital WD1200JB (7200rpm, 8Mb) - 120Gb HDD
MIDI TOWER ATX with 350W PSU
PLEXTOR 40x12x40A CD writer
DVD drive
Floppy drive
CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY soundcard
Windows XP (Home version)
all drivers up to date and m/b BIOS flashed to latest 1008 version.
all temps appear to be ok.

mine used to say the Vcore was running low, so i chanfed the default value and also bunged in a 550w PSU.

See if you can just change the default

Andy, it looks like you can adjust th CPU voltage in
0.025 increments.
according to the website.
http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socket478/p4b533/overview.htm
I'd try an increment or 2 and monitor the relevant outputs.

doesnt look like it needs much, just hittin the red line

hope this helps

Question

1. How many times does it bleep at you?
2. have you disabled any on board graphics on the motherboard??

I lost count how many times it beeped at me (lots !)

I've just been and bought a beefier psu, plugged it in and everything is now hunky dory. A nice stable 3.3volts and no beeping whatsoever.

The standard psu in the case must have been pants but now I have applied the PPP everything is ok

thanks for the help,

Andy.
