Is it worth buying the KS4 over the KS3 ?

A few more steps closer today, mirrors, fog light covers and grill all painted..... they look fantastic even if I do say myself.





I need to get a new grill badge as mine decided to break when removing it, old and brittle.





Also the mirrors have had a coat of sheen black, these came out better than I had expected... top finish.

Getting closer now and looking forward to getting the car back home in order to get on the the next few jobs I have planned for the inside mainly as the next few steps.

The brace came from Japan, Stu aka "53" placed a large order and was good enough to add this on for me I'm sure he will pass the details on if your after one.

I have read some good reviews about these braces, ok there is a little more diff noise due to the bolted on nature but from the general opinion it helps no end so looking forward to getting this on and trying the car out.

 

Your fog covers are wonky.

 

I think your right It looks the the brackets need some re aligning when I get the car home.

I have been following this from page 1 and was tempted to dive in but then thought I would wait until it was more down the line and you go and nearly finish it before I had a chance to comment.

Quite a few words to describe this project but I think they have all been used and I think people have run out of superlatives, but can I just add.

Class, pure class mate

Anyone who knew you would know that you would never settle for a half arsed job and although it seems to have mushroomed into a monster job, you were obviously the man for the job given your attention to detail and passion for the small items that make all the difference. Great to see a car restored back to its former glory and I doubt even the lowly guys on the production line would recognise it now. Probably even better than it was all those years ago.

I am sure there will have ben times you wished you hadn't started (cost) but I think the results speak for themselves and 100% agree that seeing it in the flesh will be far better than the pictures allow.

Tech talk Micky we forget its a 20 year old car in reality I expect the tolerances were more acceptable to have movement back then.

Bonus job in some respects Kev, it's one I had planned to do over winter at home but with the slight wait getting the car home I grasped the opportunity when I spotted it

 

Chris thanks matey really appreciate that indeed I knew you was a lurker

I pressed on with this and I knew in my mind I could not take a year working on the parts and I simply had to get everything ready for re assemble during the summer, with an unheated garage I had to make the most of the weather and lucky for me what a summer we had it catapulted me forward for sure.

I had Frayz's advise in my head "a little every day" which I did even if on occasion it was a tidy up and re organise in the garage that's what I did and the momentum carried me along at times too. I have to be honest not once have I regretted starting this, I knew early on 90% of where I would be on the budget as I had building and painting prices early on and I knew what upgrades I wished to carry out in my mind plus it was always my aim to put as much OEM back onto the car as possible... The brakes were a bonus as the deal was sweet otherwise 4 pots would have been refurbished.

There was an element that simply took itself along financially as I was in the hands of others with no control, bead blasting and electroplating to name two and I had to simply just pay the dollar but other than that I had it planned out... Do you know I think what's helped a lot with that is basically ending up as the project manager on this liaising with not just Ace but with all the other parts I had scattered about being worked on then seeing where I needed to go on the calendar for RallyDay as it was important to have a fixed target, plus managing myself on what I needed to do at home.
I know there's a couple of jobs I could have done better, that's in retrospect... I am no mechanic at all and have little knowledge in reality on building a car but this project has really opened my eyes on just how basic the subaru is, it's so simple now to understand it's all nuts and bolts

The devil has always been in the detail and it's always the small items that are noticed first

Hopefully we shall catch up at a show next year along the way Chris and you can give it a good once over... I still have a list of jobs for over winter at him, I'll list them up soon for you to lurk over I know I have been quite for a month now but it's been great to just chill and not think for a few weeks about the car.

Ok Ok I was getting around to it but no pictures as yet, the snagging list is now completed and car has been checked over and all is good one final job before I collect it and that needs a dry day as the geometry needs setting up and road test needs to be completed then I need a dry day to collect it

There will be no wet road driving just yet, when I get the car home I plan on fitting a small amp plus a pair of 6x9's also Gauges need fitting in and the wires will be put under the bonnet ready for Ace to fit fully in the spring. I also have some cleaning to do, glass needs a machine clean for sure then the car needs a detail ready for a dent man to have a go. Plus I plan on getting underneath as I wish to get a coat of wax on it weather permitting.

If anyone suggests you use 'Waxoyl', take a look at the thousands of 1960s - 1980s cars that have been protected by it and you still see everywhere in daily use. That will give you some idea of just how good it is(n't).

 

What wax you putting on outside of car Si

 

Thanks that's good gear there, the shell has been protected with stone chip before the paint was applied so there will be no wax oil needed etc now under the car.

I'll be using some Harley's under the car and I may treat myself to a pot of swisswax for the paintwork

 

You're in Wales, when is it ever dry?

If the weather is the way it is here in the North then the first time it will be dry and the car will be able to come out it will be the day of NBO!!
