1994 Version Sti RA.... Restoration Project.

Frayz to compare my project to Neil's is a massive compliment, I'm not sure what to say other than many thanks indeed for that. Neil's build was incredible I did not expect to be mentioned in the same sentence as a project like that.
I'm excited here myself as this will be the first time that I will have seen all of these parts unwrapped together, I've approached this as separate steps and separate items and kept them covered over before prep and packed up after, it was my way of not looking at a mountain of work so to see it all together will be quite something
It's a pity we are not closer as to have a little Frayz Engineering on the car would have been perfect

Im serious when i compare these kinds of builds. As said before, people dont restore imprezas, they modify them, usually badly too. So to see a proper full on nut/boltresto is absolutely superb. It genuinely makes me question my own car and want to improve it.
From my own experience with spending 2 years collecting parts to then start finally unwrapping and bolting them together... all i can say is, christmas will feel like its come early.
Bolting new parts to a new bodyshell is an absolutely awesome and unique experience, youll love every minute. The time spent on refurbishing and overhauling all those little parts will now finally come into their own and youll realise why i suggested the various, bushes and modifications we spent so long discussing.
Best thread on SN by a long chalk mate, the details say it all.

Cheers pal a full nut/bolt resto.... Yes indeed umm yes I'm not quite sure really how all that started I was only going to do a bit of squaring up well that was the initial plan
I have to be honest it was always a bit of a dream of mine to undertake a restoration but never did I think or imagine I would but after seeing a Lotus Cortina a few years ago that had been done that picture stuck in my mind, it's still there now and I'm sure I have some pictures of that car I'll have to have a look for them. I don't think reality will hit me until I see the shell and unpack the parts then I think I may realise where I am here.... It's a pity I can't rebuild the bugger myself but I respect limitations and experience but I'm pleased to have achieved what I have as a lot of people don't understand how I dug my way through all the rust
One thing though this is only stage one here... The cars got a few dents and needs a dent man plus I've got trim work to do and I will be detailing the car myself so it may look on top in need but the foundation will be sound that's for sure, also gauges will be another stage so I'll be working on it a little while yet but that's good because that's all going to be work I will do at home.
Initially when it's back on the road the objective will be to get some miles under the cars belt to make sure all is well etc

With how far you've gone and with keeping all the original parts I'd be inclined to keep everything standard Si,make it a complete original restoration.
I wouldn't be fitting the brembos IMO,once you've gone completely bonkers on customising like me it makes no odds but yours would benifit from staying standard now.
Just my 2 pence worth

I know what your saying there Ryan... Some of my motivation has been budget orientated as well here as its kept the spend down but it was always my intention to tweek the car, I learnt a lot from my blue classic and some of that I am repeating on this to make the handling etc much more refined.
The brakes are bolt on so no big issue to step back if I ever wished, I am keeping everything I remove so that's all packed away safe. I did get the Brembo set up at a very good price and I do like a nice set of brakes my original set up is shot to bits and would require full refurb.
I take it all inboard though Ryan for sure

I've put a lot of hours in Ryan a hell of a lot.... Finish work at 4.30 home in 15 minutes, quick bite to eat and in the garage... Sit down near 9pm then and that was most nights of the week, then back and fore on the weekends as well late into the nights.
I also know I've covered around 2,000 miles in my Golf just on subaru related as well for this build so far and it's going go over that before I drive the car home.
And thanks Ryan much appreciated indeed too

2K is that all lol
I've probably done 10 in the last 2 years sourcing parts and getting bits and pieces to various places/people for custom work
Seriously though it does take some amazing dedication to either do what you or I have done to a car(and **** loads of money!)

How long do you anticipate the rebuild to take? Also any ideas where the grand unveiling is going to take place would love to see it in the flesh/steel so to speak

Not fully sure as yet but it's my best intention to be at Rallyday at Combe in September... That's the plan if I can achieve it we shall see but if not I'm not going to cut corners to get there and we will all have to wait a little longer.

Had a little go finishing and cleaning a couple of parts this afternoon...
First off finished the anti lift kit off..
Also picked up an under tray off one of the breakers, all being well this will be fitted once we can... I would prefer not to have an open engine bay and I don't think the car had one on as OEM for that year.
It came up well after a good clean...
Also set to work on the boot liner, it was rotten so a good dose of G101 was in order.
Spot the difference below !
I don't wish to run without one fitted as the chance of damaging the bodywork while cornering is great.

Right guys first off sorry no shell pictures... I've not even seen it myself yet as the paintshop was closed today very difficult to think I was 10 minutes away from it and unable to see the finished result but I've learnt the art of patience this year if nothing else.
But on a huge positive note I have unpacked and set out my stall so to speak... No point in me rambling on I'm just going to give you a load of pictures and let you all get on with it today, sorry not all in focus as the phone was struggling with the sunshine coming through the window.
Enjoy
Still a few parts boxed up but that mainly brakes, bushes, hubs etc but all to hand ready.

I have been reading this post since it was created and this is my first participation in it. I must say this is pure pornography. Excellent work in all fields, the details are simply amazing. Something that I would definitely do with mine if I had the time or the knowledge. Or I could just simply send it to you and you do the same for it. Would be ok for you? lol just kidding :P
Keep up the good work.
