Why complain about what others do and charge, if there are people (it seems there are) that are willing to pay xyz for a remap and you are cheaper than them you should be happy as some of their customers will probably come to you once you have proven yourself.

Previously you mentioned you are doing it as a hobby but the above "refrain from quoting your prices" implies you are charging, so it is not a hobby anymore?

Hi all, just been catching up on this thread.
Tone H, I did not say OS software was “poor” I stated that I do not feel I can do as good a job of mapping a car using it due to the lack of detail in the rom descriptions, and that I had identified some vaguaries in the descriptions which is a very different thing.
And as for OS software “blowing up engines” (your words) my comments were intended to indicate that if you try and map a car without the right equipment and at least some knowledge of what you are about then, yes, engines can disintegrate. I don't think there is any secret about that.
I am fortunate in that I have experience in both systems. If O/S mapping I use an alternative to Romraider or EcuFlash though.
One other point that I would make, I have never personally rubbished the Carberry rom which is, I think, an excellent piece of work by Carbibbles, you have implied otherwise in several places, its not all things to all men and care is needed in its use as the later cable ecu's are not as compatible with the earlier ones as may be thought, I am speaking about hardware differences here. At this time MegaRom aside, which is not speed density, it is a very decent piece of work.
I have posted some information on Subaru map sensors in my project thread, post 303 I think, people may find it of help in understanding the different sensor's usable range and limits.
Picking up on a post above ... you can log any EcuTek mapped ecu with RomRaider or even EvoScan or EcuEdit given the use of the Tactrix cable or equivalent. that also includes reading codes and resetting the ecu in addition. And not just Subaru vehicles either.
Cheers
