I just can't believe you'd deny Christianity's influence on English Law; it appears to me to be an absurd position. Still, never one to shy away from an exchange, let's hear your case.

All I have said is that to say "Christianity is the bedrock etc etc" is an article of faith. Or if I may be more succinct - a Dogma.
It seems to me, one could discuss your position from various points of view.
For example,
Rather than saying Christianity is the bedrock, one could argue that it is a veneer/flag of convenience. It is difficult to look past Kings who (presumably for their own convenience) say they are ordained by the grace of God and also Henry the VIII's cavalier approach to the Church in order to consider that such a view might be worth consideration.
One could furthermore posit that Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism and as such it is Judaism that forms the bedrock. As far as I know, forgiveness is not unique to Christianity in this regard and the ten commandments certainly seem fundamental to any "bedrock" position.
One could also suggest that where we are today is merely a reflection of our human nature and if anything, that we have gotten to this point in spite of religion.
I am not saying that any of the points above are correct or that there aren't others that are better.
They are just points for discussion - Unless of course, you are talking to some type of fundamentalist
