why do Jewish women have to shave there hair bold when they get married?
How is it suspect? It isn't a case of 'point scoring' and that was all I was trying to say. You were suggesting only one religion is subject to mocking, and that is point blank, not the case.
Maybe we should ban such conversations, although for the most part, threads aren't originally about mocking, they tend to have a discussion point, but you will always get certain comments made. I'm not sure they should be banned, as stupid remarks can easily be ignored, or if meant in humour, take it as meant. Also, people are entitled to an opinion, and how far do we take silencing them, just because we don't agree. No opinions will be changed if all we do is stop discussion.
Taking this a little further, for example, I'm not the skinniest person in the world and I often stumble on threads having a go at anyone above a size 10, should I remove all of them as they take the ****/verge on offensive? What about threads about people claiming benefits, they could be taken as offensive to someone in that position, even though comments may be directed at the career scroungers, people can generalise too much.
I may have gone on too much of a tangent here, but the point I'm getting at is NSR is full of various discussions, and amongst them, there will be threads or comments within, that may take the ****, or even offend, but where do we stop in terms of removing all of that? Why should it only apply to religious topics? If you think the place is dead now......It all depends on the person as to what topic or comment offends.

Should bring these boys over for the 12th celebrations next year - what do you think, Ardoyne about 9pm?
The fact they have been bigging themselves up for millennia is not in dispute

Geezer
Do you understand that there is a Jewish ethnicity beyond religious affiliation? If I were to convert to Judaism I wouldn't suddenly muster up the genetic and hereditory distinctions that make one Jewish, would I? I can't just become an Ashkenazi Jew by uttering some badly constructed declaration. Conservative and Orthodox Jewish philosophy states that a person can be considered a Jew only if his or her mother is Jewish. That's that. You really don't have the authority to change that, I'm afraid.

Well as I have asked several times, how do you think a Muslim coming to this board for the first time would feel given the plethora of fairly anti Muslim threads that were hanging around about 2 years ago. And now looking at this thread I could ask the same question as to how a Jew might feel although at least it is just one thread (see how the numbers adding up does matter).
I just think that when a thread degenerates into Muslim/Jew/gay/overweight/ etc. etc. bashing what is to be gained by leaving it hanging around?
You say it would be totally dead in here, but surely there is more to NSR than just takng the **** out of people who have different creeds and characteristics to the perfection that is the stereotypical mid to late 20s white male Scooby driver coupled to his IQ of abiout 50 on a good day?

Of course there is more to NSR, much more, all I'm saying is controversial topics are part of it, and if we storm in and bin any thread that could be considered **** taking (a matter of opinion to a point) the section would become even quieter, and god knows how many complaints would roll in saying we are being OTT. Discussing current events/news stories is a part of NSR, but I would encourage people to post other types of threads until their heart's content. At the end of the day, it is up to the members what NSR is about.

I do hear what you are saying, thankfully, things have calmed down of late, hopefully it can stay that way. However, I just don't think people should be afraid to have a discussion for fear of offending. Posts that go way too far are generally deleted, those more borderline tend to stand, as it allows others the freedom to respond. As I've said, although at times threads go too far off topic or get silly, nothing will broaden minds if topics are out of bounds. As for this particular thread, I would like to hope a Jew wouldn't be offended, as I don't think for the most part, anyone is trying to offend.

Lisa the discussion is not a problem, the issue here is the constant anti Muslim threads. certain individuals seem to post something very often and if it was for educational purpose or discussion fine. but it's to stir hatred in the forum to **** all the Muslim members off. there is no benefit to some of the threads all it does it just causes arguments and the wrong type of banter.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread, you are all guilty of crass hypocrisy.

I'm honestly not wanting to sound 'nasty', I just think it's not so much a problem now. Yes, it was and it did get to the point where enough was enough and the mods did regularly step in. Generally speaking, more recently I would say that topics do come up now and then, but I think it's more to do with what may be going on in the world or is in the news at the time, not just a case of posting anti-Muslim threads for the sake of it. Hopefully people realise, that isn't acceptable.

To be fair, how constant are they now? Not a few months ago, or a year ago?

I absolutely agree with you there. I don't like that any more than you, or probably many people on this board (or in life generally) so please don't think because I may support discussion, that I necessarily agree with it. Sadly, some people will generalise, no matter what the 'target' may be, I just feel it is better to put an alternative point across (or allow for others), failing that, just ignore.
They think they are smart as they copy and paste a load of old $hite that no one is interested in reading. They are not smart, they are pathetic. They bait people and think they are funny, they are not. They make themselves look like fools and the vast majority of folks on this board have no time for them.
Rise above it, you are far better than they are
Oh and most of the Jewish folks I know, the wimmins do not shave their heads. I think that is the older generation, much older. Another daft religious idea

Agreed (about the daft bit). I'm not sure it is an older generation thing though. I haven't personally asked if they have shaven heads, but we serve a fairly large Jewish community where I work, and I can even tell the majority are wearing wigs (young and old). I don't feel it is appropriate for me to ask whether they actually have a shaven head or if they are just covering their own hair.

I know I have just double standard my own comment, but I think people know what I mean.

It doesn't really matter though Lisa. Religion has caused wars. Shame on it. But, if people gather comfort from it, and as long as it does not harm people, so what. To each their own.

There's nothing wrong in being proud of your race, I'm white anglo-saxon and although an atheist I was christened CoE. Although when I see Christians being attacked in other sh*tholes around the world it doesn't make me all angry to the point I need to put down my cup of tea, stop mowing the lawn or launch a full on attack on another religion or country.
Mus means that he posted a thread about Jewish female hair removal as a response to Tony's and my criticism of Islam, and if Mus doesn't mean that, you do! Well, thank goodness your dramatic exit was only theatre, we'd have missed out on these carefully considered posts.

you make It sound like I'm the one to blame for them to shaving there heads or the fact that women dont shave down there. I didn't make constant jokes about it and 300 threads I just stated facts.
im now aware that not all jews follow that tradition.
