I do understand that Jews think they have a distinct difference from others and being a Jew is more than practising Judaism.

However, before Judaism arose, the humans that migrated to that region were all the same. Being a Jew is not, in that sense, 'real'. They are from the same genetic pool as anyone else living in that region.

I'm not sure why you are arguing about this really I agree about what being a Jew means, I just pointed out that using different classical 'races' was a bad example of what you were trying to illustrate.

I didn't use the classical races, you did! I said I couldn't just become (ethnically) Jewish in the same as I couldn't just become an Arab (which is a panethnicity), an Afro-Caribbean (a Caribbean person of African descent) or an Inuit (who are an indigenous people of the Arctic region who share approximately the same culture). My example works just fine.

I'm no expert in Jewish philosophy so i can't comment on whether the above is true or not, and simply have no desire to find out if i'm brutally honest.

However, according to a Jewish family friend, there's no difference, as long as the convert is sincere and embraces all aspects of "Jewishness".

If somebody told me they'd converted to Christianity, in my mind they'd be a Christian. If somebody told be they'd converted to becoming a negro, and they had freckles and ginger hair, i'd laugh. Jewish isn't a race, it's merely a religion.

No, i think you're giving credence to Jewish "ethnicity" that just doesn't exist, except in their own minds perhaps.
