If you pm Ryan he will give you a spot on grey paint code. The white is 230. But is an absolute nightmare to match in the bodywork. Best to have one thats perfect like mine.... Lol

You're asking the wrong chap lol. From what I understand the later nitrided/cross-drilled cranks are the strongest.

Grey?! Wtf! Na not for me lol.
I'm not bothered about 100% perfect match just not majorly different. There's something about white classics with white wheels.

Well after a visit to JCA coatings ( Thanks Craigo) I made a start on the whitening of Moley's ex-alloys.
After a brief chat with the helpful chap at JCA I decided to make this a little more important, not just a quick fix. After all at some point I'll probably pressure wash and apply traffic film etc to these wheels so they will need to have a little more attention than just a £5 halfords jobbie. So a bit more attention than not much, but not much to the back of the wheels lol.

Again though I'll say I'm not after a 100% finish otherwise I'd have just had them powdercoated.

So etch primer first...

Then paint...although I'm not happy with the spray from the nozzles (note stripe in pic 3)

Light stopped play, more tomorrow perhaps.

Bit of Laquer....

With the last of the feather white I thought I'd mask up the L/H corner of the front bumper and tidy it up a bit (Again would not be perfect but cleaned up).
Before....

And after.....

You've done an alright job there Alex.

Like you say, might not be perfect, but, it doesn't stand out as much.

Why didn't you take care of the mark on the bumper before paint?

It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing. What do you think it is? A lump of fibre glass repair?
I've been considering a 22b kit and front bumper....

Ok so I left just the fronts fitted whilst i wait for 2 more of these.....

But it's made the DCCD go mental, basically making banging, clunking noises whilst driving in anything but set all the way back.

haven't got dccd, but the spacers i bought were only 5 mm ,as they just rubbed on the raised SUBARU on the front. I wouldn't use the type in the link for any more than 5mm anyways ,but i had my local tyre place fit them and check there was enough stud length when they fitted the tyres
they had them in my local store but i think there on this page http://www.performancecentre.co.uk/p...__01&PTC=RGM40 somewhere lol
as for the rods I won't be able to get the engine built and in until about easter as the bores are good (within subaru tollerances) and i was hoping to just hone and use a "drop in" set of pistons, but the type of mahle pistons iv chose will mean the block will need a 92.5mm overbore . its gonna be running 300 ish for a while
well until iv saved enough to fill the scooby pot back up to 6 speed and turbo money

Looks lovely eh Craig, especially for £180 .
But I need to get on with this now, the engine was stripped a year ago, the piston's bought in June. I'm hoping that once the engine is built everything else is on a downhill slope, IE smaller, more affordable parts (depending on the box I decide on).

Amazing....a year.... new house, new job, new car, stopped smoking, got engaged.

PM'd you regarding Crank buddy. I need to be focused in 2013, the thing with projects is that there are no clear instructions, no clear direction to go in so it's easy to get distracted. In all honesty if I hadn't sold the WRX and bought the Type R then I'd have had the £900 difference and the bottom end would be built.

I bought the wrong pistons. They are 92.5mm but the gudgeon pin has the wrong offset for a 2.1 build. Either I needed to change the piston's or WMS offered me some special con rods just that little shorter so the piston doesn't hit the head. I never wanted to go Mahle/Manley/Eagle, maybe I'm a piston snob lol. So Brian Crower Rods now sold, the next purchase is some more rods. Block needs to be sent to WMS and checked (remember it may be unusable anyway as I am a savage) - Rebored/Machined etc, then shells etc for the build.

The direction to me is still unclear. Engine built, that's about all I can say for definite will be happening. The other idea's are endless
6-speed DCCD
5-speed late STI
18's - but who knows which. Respray, but what colour? I always loved this...

But its actually a standard red on new age's. I also always thought about how good a classic would look in WR1 blue....

So they've both been done before. I've been in complete awe of the Gobstopper recently, just the look and the finish. The 22B to me is a lovely looking car and the arches look good but the WRC arches I've seen look even better but cost the earth.

I guess this is a very long term thing now. Me being me even when I'm happy in 5 years time I'll look at change and see things wrong. I've got the 2 door shell now, which can be the base for anything now as long as it stays in one piece.

Let's hope the crank doesn't turn out to be a dud. Who knows I may have to return to polishing to bring a few £££ in again.

Is it? I remember the owner said it was a one off based on UK Mica red with some extra candy chucked in to give it unique tone. Basically a custom paintjob.

Having searched a bit more you're right, and here's you saying it in '09 ....

Although this chap seems to disagree.

Anyway its been done before and I'm not sure I'd go for those alloys which could throw the look out completely.
