It does a lot that your laptop can't do. That's why they're popular.

Fortunately not all of us are issued with sh1te laptops. Mine gets slung in and out fo a bag, in and out of the car everyday aswell as being carried, kicked round and used in our test and data centres and it has never put a foot wrong.

What like, I'm at a loss to justify one as I have a laptop. This is not me trolling, I genuinely don't know.

Is the battery an internal one like the iPhone or is it removable?

Please oh great one why not be a bit more specific rather than spouting your usual rubbish with no info other than it does alot my laptop can't?

So far I have not found anything my laptop can't do that I need it to do.

Not in pounds (sterling) per square inch. They seem to be much more expensive than the equivalent laptop.

The omitted features and flaws I have ponted out are fact and at the end of the day Apple seem reluctant to mention them in their marketing literature... I am just redressing the balance
Yes you are fully entitled to your opinion be it right or wrong.

I don't think your are a **** or any other part of female anatomy, but it is getting a bit grating that every time that Apple is mentioned on Scoobynet that you are there like an evangilising preacher from the deep south telling everyone about the dangers of the devil.

What you class as omitted features and flaws some others might think of as being un-necessary or superfluous such as Flash not working which if I am honest has never been an issue for me.

I would imagine that Apple (as most other companies would do whatever field they are in) have a design brief of what they want their device to achieve; they chose not to include Flash support as they saw it as out dated (but nobody can confirm this unless they sit on the Apple board and that includes Jack Clark). Whether this is a good thing only time will tell but they certainly appeared to have sped up the process of Flash being killed off.

Now please come down from the pulpit...

Sorry but wrong again..... it is Apple who are the evangelising preachers building their flock of faithful disciples who have sold their soul for a place in Apple heaven and I am the voice of common sense.

On a more serious note tell me how having a H264 standard that isn't even consistent across their own devices is a 'design brief' LOL!

Yet again a fabulous design feature meaning that you should own the whole spectrum of Apple mobile devices in order to enjoy video on the move, this of course means that you should have an iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.

In all probability it is due to a problem with iOS across the different versions and devices (such as iPhones before the 3GS not being able to use iOS 5 and beyond).

Wrong, but never mind.

You also might want to ask yourself why any of these formats that won't play on one or more Apple devices do play on Android.... anyway never mind let's move on eh?

Wurzel, how come you can say that your laptop does more than an iPad without being specific? Yet I have to be specific.

Anyhow, you can't use you're laptop flat. Oh and last night I overlaid the sky with a star map that lined up perfectly due to hardware you don't have.

I have bought myself an Ipad 2 for xmas. Looking forward to it
I already have a PC so this will just be used for internet shopping, games and browsing really.
God knows why some of you get so mad about all this.
My iphone 4 has been the best phone I've ever had. So even though I have been a PC man for years I'm actually considering getting an iMac next when my PC dies.

That's a two year old article, since then everyone including Adobe has worked out that there's no Flash because it sucks!

Cool

That I can well believe, and that is why I am not a fan of Apple the company.

I have no trouble with their products, I own a few. In fact, I like the products, but no more so than some other stuff I use. They have their limitations, like every product.

But, although f1_fan's utter disdain for them as a developer (which I can understand), I don't see those same problems as a user. And that's the key. No matter how utterly cnutish Apple will be in their business model and their efforts to control the world, if the end user experience is acceptable, then they are going to win, sadly.

It will be interesting to see how Apple does now their Messiah has karked it. No matter how much he groomed people, they are not Steve Jobs. It's like Germany in the 30/40s, there were plenty of evil b@stards, but none of them could hold it together like Hitler did.

Without him, the ***** simply couldn't have done it.

But plenty do - fact is you can't play Flash or WMV files and you can't right click and save as from a website (you get "Safari cannot download this file").

Furthermore just go to the Apple support forums or MacRumors and search on 'this movie could not be played' or 'this movie format is not supported' and read it and weep... there are even people in there who have bought content form iTunes and get these messages .... very poor!

That may well be the case, I don't disbelieve you, but personally I haven't had that many issues.

I would imagine it is a vocal minority that do. And that is backed up by the sales numbers, whether that is a result of the quality of the product, or the marketing.

But whichever it is, if a product is ****, no matter who makes it, people won't buy it. Apple products certainly are not ****, they have limitations that, so it would seem, the majority of people are willing to put up with.

And of course the real problem is that the others have not really challenged it. Apple aren't magic, so other companies can do what they do.

I hope they do, because having one company dictate how everyone is fed their content is not good for anyone.

Fair enough, I just would like someone else to get their **** together and present a real challenge to the iPad.... I am stunned as to why no one can do it.... it should be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Because you keep coming on here time and time again spouting how wonderful Apple is and how useless everything else is because it isn't Apple but never ever give any facts as to why. So I am asking you now what can the iPad do for me that my laptop can't?

It may be 2 years old, but it doesn't make it incorrect, this is Apple's business operating model. Contrary to what you like to believe, it wasn't the "all powerful" Apple Inc. that caused Adobe to pull Flash on mobile, it was Microsoft with Windows 8. It wasn't long after Microsoft announced that Metro would not be supporting Flash that Adobe announced it was pulling development for Flash. Microsoft afterall has 90% market share for OS's.

Toughbook?

Good for throwing down the stairs or beating up would-be muggers. Not good for much else (peformance wise)

...and you can still play angry birds on it

That wasn't the question, the question was

"So I am asking you now what can the iPad do for me that my laptop can't?
I could use my laptop flat if I wanted to but I don't have any need to. What hardware don't I have then?"

The answer to that question is "Accelerometer"
