Let the opinions commence! (Drinking while driving)
What I would suggest is;
If he's willing to drink a can of beer whilst driving, it's highly likely that he drives under the influence.
Not wanting to dramatise things, but it's all very possible by intervening you've saved someones life today.
I say report him Mr Burns. More people like this off the road, the better.

I think you have done the right thing, but i would have reported him. There should be a zero tollerance on drink driving.
Who is to say that it was his first can it could have been his 4th for all we know or it could have been his first.
If he has the ***** to drink alcohol behind the wheel then its probablly not the first time he has done it.

Just for reference - I still CAN report him, but the Police officer did say that getting him for DUI would be impossible.
However, the video DOES show him drinking while driving, so I can give evidence and make a statement for due care

You can be in perfect control of a motor vehicle whilst drinking or eating.

not relevant - it's a public place so there is no expectation of privacy (and helmet cams have successfully been used in prosecutions in the past)
Just curious after reading this thread.
I've just been out cleaning my car whilst having some tasty alcoholic beverages. Now the police always come down to turn around in the carpark at my apartment, could they do me for having the keys to my car on my person whilst more than likely being over the limit whilst cleaning my car?

I'll make you a deal, you pour that drink away and I'll not report you to the Police. How's that?"
So, from that statement that you gave to this motorist you have now spoken to the police and reported him!!
by the time I reported it, he was well away and impossible to find (we were less than a mile from the M1).
Seems to me Kieran that you are no better than he is, you have simply renaged on your word!!!
Not a very good light to shine on yourself no matter if the guy was in the wrong
A MANS word is his bond.

Good job I didn't see him.
A drink driver put my dad in hospital for a year and in a wheelchair for life.
In the wreckage of the cars they found empty beer cans in his. Now I am not really a betting man but I would put money on the fact he was drinking cans while driving along.
If it was him being distracted by the drinking or the drinking itself that made him to cause the crash I guess I will never know, but my blood boils whenever I see / hear stuff like this.

No offense Kieran but posting this thread makes you look a bit of a ***** in my book.
Pathetic power hungry cyclist looking for trouble with motorists.

No-one has said he was drunk in charge!!
I wouldn't drink beer whilst driving - that's not for any reason other than I wouldn't enjoy it.
BUT, I would (and do) have a bottle of water in my door and I swig from it now and again whilst driving ... if a cyclist told me to pour it away, well - I wouldn't be able to contain myself!
Clearly we need to be clear - are we against the act of drinking beer ... or against the act of drinking ANYTHING?

It's not like that - it just so happens that I had the camera on at the time - I bought and use it to film daft and fun stuff (with the odd rant and bit of stupidity)
For example:

As to reporting crimes to the Police? You mean you don't?
Was you sure it was beer in the can did you take a sample of it when poured onto the road?
Did you report him for littering too?
Whereas I can understand why you did it and I feel you are lucky not to have been confronted for it (maybe as he didnt it was an admission of guilt)
I think simply shaking your head at him may have been the right thing to do, as your not a copper you are a simple admin on SN, unless the power thing is too much you have to tak eit out on joe public (did you thin he was PSL?)

Self righteous cyclist tells anyone who will listen he "did the right thing", so proud is he, he posts it on here..
Clearly your so proud of you semi confrontation you have HAD to post it on SNET for all the "followers" to applause.....hows that back fire feel for you?....
Not sure about that, how come all film on the news/pictures in the papers have the number plates of cars and faces of drivers blanked out?

Otherwise when I go out to Leeds and Rave till 6.30am I'd simply go back to my car, unlock the door and sleep on the back seat. I was told I could face prosecution for this even if the key never touches the ignition block.

It had nothing to do with my mode of transport at the time - that was simply how I was able to notice what was happening.
Think of it this way (and again something for people to consider - and precisely why I did relate the story) would you report a crime / confront someone committing a crime? THIS is what I was getting the debate started about.
I find your own confrontational attitude interesting, you look for the worst reason as to why someone would do something.

It could of been his birds stella, and he was having a sip
