I can top that!! A business acquaintance is worth over $20bn. He will not pay more than $50 on a watch even though he loved watches.
He has had a chauffeur driven Focus for years (even though it is totally bashed up) and finally only replaced it when it got a big hole in the drivers door when a lorry hit it.
When replacing it he turned down fantastic (free?) offers from Bentley, RR, Maybach, Merc etc to get a Mondeo!

He does love these things - he just doesn't think you should 'waste' your money on these things.
He does, however, expect that his key sales and account guys in his main company should aspire to own Ferraris and Porsches

I know we are going off topic here but...if he loves cars and he has the money???!!!
I know I'd rather stare at and polish and drive something great rather than look at a garage filled with £10 notes that will never be spent!
I'd rather be poor!.....tell him to get one of those half price veyrons

I agree if you are interested in something and have that sort of money you may as well treat yourself. The missus and I are far from 'well off' but she doesn't think twice at spending £600 on a handbag.
I am not a car enthusiast but am interested in cars but still decide to spend a large proportion of my income on a decent car.

Couldn't be further from the truth. He thinks bankers are wasteful dilettantes...
...a quote from his entry in Wiki - "Premji is known for his modesty and frugality in spite of his wealth. He drives a Toyota Corolla and flies economy class, prefers to stay in company guest houses rather than luxury hotels and even served food on paper plates at a lunch honoring his son's wedding"
PS And it seems he is poorer now - only $16.8bn!!
