well got the throttle body today with all three sensors on it so switched them all round and the bloody light is still on,
dont suppose some kind person out there will tell me what these are, i know the first one is the tps but havent a clue what the other 2 are cheers

Generally this is the nuetral position switch that does this CEL flashing on a bug eye. Throws up misfires codes and also cam position sensor code too.
Mostly it isnt a misfire and changing plugs or coilpacks isnt the soilution, fitting a new nuetral position switch from the correct year of car is - get new from subaru as 50% of supplied ones from breakers are also faulty in my experience. They are only £45 new iirc

For what's worth.. Your asking owners of scooby's that have had issues with their cars in the past to analyze and give a medication online.
Take it to a garage. My car had the yellow engine of terror appear for no reason while driving to work... I made a call to PE who kindly took it in and diagnosed the " probable cause" and gave me very honest out comes and solutions to my problem...
I'm not knocking the judgement of readers on here but when someone says " it sounds like" online ... that's your call

Main dealer quoted me £47.99+vat. I read out the part number to them and they said it was right so when it comes I'll check the part number again.
Can you tell me just exactally where the switch goes???

Got the front end up ramps which made it easier.
There are 2 switches on the nearside of the gear box towards the back.
One is the reversing light (forwardmost) the rear one is the NPS. The most fiddly bit is releasing the electrical connector. My switch came with a fairly
thick copper washer the old one was thinner which I used again just to make sure of maximum throw on the switch. Once I found it it took 5 minutes to change.
There are 2 switches on the nearside of the gear box towards the back.

mate i had all this crap with my my02 sti 2 years ago,was coming up with 0304 missfire on 4,after loads of messing was advised to change nps and on 6 speed its not so easy,done that and still come on,i ended up having it removed by jollygreenmonster via the map he had done on it,by the way subaru main stealer nicked £50.00 off me and said oh its the maf sensor mate defo the maf !!!!! same one still going strong 2 years later so they just make an un-educated guess in my eyes.it would have been £350.00 for nowt if i said ok !!!

update for you all
its been in the garage this morning and they reckon it could be the exhaust valve gone cos when they tested the pressure and it only read 30LB. apparently it should read 120LB+ so looks like it could be very expensive
