engine light on
hi all, my engine light has just started flashing, and the car feels sluggish as hell dont suppose anyone has a clue? i havent got a diagnostic thingy for it so wouldnt have a clue about any error codes
thanks |
You can get the code readers on ebay for £20, i recently bought one and cleared the fault codes on mine.
Might be worth purchasing one for peace of mind and saves you the cost of taking it to a garage to get it diagnosed. |

This is the one i got.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT Plugs in under the steering wheel colum, there is a plug about 12 inches back. Plug it in with the ignition off and thenm switch on ignition, it will then calobrate the the car and then read any codes stored, you can then erase them from there. Hope this helps. |
Could be so many things but my 03 WRX just cost me a new MAF last week. Although I suppose not bad for 102k miles done, LOL.
|
yeah mine was exactly the same spluttering when it came on to boost it used to do a few pops out of the exhaust aswell i adjusted the tps and all was fine its just two little screws on the throttle body with a little black box and you just move it slightly??
|
To be honest it sounds like it's only running on 3 cylinders
|
yeah mine was missing aswell the revs were up and down on idle and it sounded dog rough mate mine had the same symptoms and turned out to be that throttle sensor dont know wether yours will be the same or not pal?
|
Cheers mate. I'll have to wait till I get one of them diagnostic cables
|
well its a P0302 and it says that i have a misfire on cylinder 2, so i guess that means new plugs and leads, do you think i would need a coil pack or try that first??????
|
Right looks like I'm gonna have to try swapping coil packs around to see if it's that that's at fault but which one is cylinder No2 when your looking at the engine with the bonnet up. Don't want to take the wrong side to bits lol
|
I struggled for a couple of months with a misfire (20B1 <no code>) and slow flashing CEL light under load. Also running like a bag of spanners. Reset ECU Ok for 100 miles CEL light flashing again. Turned out to be the Neutral Position Switch. (Mines an 02 Bugeye WRX)
Got a set of Coil packs (that I changed unnecessarily) if want any? |

well first of all i swapped the coils around and nothing changed, then i swapped the plugs around but while doing that i tryed to get the tps off and couldnt (without taking more of the car) so just gave it a tap with the bottom of a screwdriver then put everything back together and it running fine now. i reckon the tap on the tps did the trick lol
|
told you mate mine did it there really sensitive and the slightest adjustment seems to be able to cock them up glad you got it sorted mate

well update for ya,
engine light has been coming on and off so took the tps off and gave a damn good cleaning but the engine light is still coming on and off so looks like ill be getting a new tps, hopefully ill be getting one from E_M_B on here |
Generally this is the nuetral position switch that does this CEL flashing on a bug eye. Throws up misfires codes and also cam position sensor code too.
Mostly it isnt a misfire and changing plugs or coilpacks isnt the soilution, fitting a new nuetral position switch from the correct year of car is - get new from subaru as 50% of supplied ones from breakers are also faulty in my experience. They are only £45 new iirc |

Thanx for that mate. I already have a tps coming along with a idle control so see if that works then go for this fix then (bloody cars are a pain in the ass)
the car feels weird(only way i can describe) cos when you floor it in 1st and 2nd it all of a sudden boosts like normal then just stops and then boosts again like a rubber band |
As Dynamix said.
I had the same problem. Car felt horrible. Reset ECU OK for about 100 miles or until I booted it CEL flashed. Horrible again! See my thread https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...w-flashes.html NPS is dead easy to change........but get a new one. |
