The 415bhp model is the 997.1 which wasn't a great car to be honest.
The 997.2 has a short ratio box that helps acceleration. If you could have PDK and keep the same weight it might even be in the 6's. The advantage is light weight compared to the porky Turbos.
The Turbo S is bananas - although the same spec is at least £20k more - for a car that is ultimately less involving, if a little more discreet!

You see, you're not all that bad when you pass your knowledge over, a nice reasoned response there and something I was unaware of
Seeing as I mentioned it earlier, what is the depreciation like on these? A rariety and a car that is listed as an all time great, I take it wont be as significant like some Ferraris and Lambos and other supercars priced in that region?
That black 1 is much more subtle and more my cup of tea, looks meaner looking too. I guess a stickerless GT3RS would lose it's appeal though?
Reading back over my initial posts now, I think I was too harsh on the looks as you clearly do have intentions of tracking the car and I guess I missed the whole point and jumped in head first. For that I apologise.

They're too new to know what the depreciation will be like, but I'd take a wild guess and say they'll be the slowest depreciating current, non-limited edition model that Porsche make.
You could probably pick an early one up for about £105k.

The only real benchmark I have is that a good 6RS will still easily fetch £60k for a car that cost £87k eight years ago.
Even after two years, the much less impressive 7.1RS was fetching £90k for a car that cost £95k.
These are difficult times though, uncertainty and very high petrol costs. On the other hand - it is probably Porsche's best reviewed model, ever.
I am not planning to sell it soon and after 12 months I am only aware of one car going for less than £100k, for a car that cost £104k. And at that price I have to wonder at the history.

yes -- but is that the same body as yours Trout, it looks a bit weak around the front arches, and the spoiler is not "aggressive" enough

It is the same body. The only difference is that the RS has a plastic wheel arch extension (albeit an expensive one!!) on the front arches.
I agree with Mattee - if you want to wonder how cynical Porsche marketing is check out the Sport.
Same power as a basic Carrera S and more money than my RS.

There are some RSR and Cup cars that have been converted to road use. My view is that you may as well by a GT3 RS or a GT2.

That's what I thought, it is quite possible it was an ex race car converted for road use, the power for over taking was more akin to that of a top end sports bike, I was on one at the time sitting behind him! Also Paragon Porsche aren't too far from where I saw this and they are an independant specialist who have thier own race team so could have been sourced and converted through them.
In this picture it does look like they have put the first lower spoiler on and then as an after thought bunged the top high wing spoiler on.
Not to my taste to be fair,hadn't seen it from that angle till now,still i'm sure it aids down force other wise it wouldn't be there on such a car.
I also prefer the ducktail type tbho.

What a waste of a car. If I had the money to spend on such a car I would be out in it every damn day, not have it just sit there looking pretty 
The only other Porsche I like that rivals Trout's GT3 RS is the black GT2 RS, looks just as stunning but more subtle without the graphics.

A GT3 RS chassis with 611bhp!!! With 446bhp per tonne, not a measly 317bhp per tonne!
