BC Racing Time Attack Impreza #6

Engine out and took some time to seal / heat proof the bulkhead and also fit the chassis loom connectors for the engine loom and car loom.
OBP pedal box and remote reservoirs fitted too.
Engine mounts refreshed as they get a bit of a battering:
Engine back in and loom in progress to find the best routing of the cables:
Loom weighs next to nothing compared with the original wiring that was ripped out !

It is indeed
Will be at the pod during may or June to test it on the strip. Hoping it will hit sub 1200 without all the aero gubbins in drag form so with a decent 1/4 mile driver (probs not me) put in a v low 10But as you know it isn't built for the strip so focus is 100% on competing head to head with the gobstopper 1 or 2 on the track but for a minute fraction of the build cost.

Time Attack Round 3
Venue: Brands Hatch
BC Racing Time Attack Impreza
Having managed a relatively lucky 3rd position up in knockhill, scotland for round 2 of Time Attack, there was work to do to fix some of the issues that were stopping the car go quicker. With so many off season changes to the car to improve the pace of it and reduce weight, there were inevitable glitches mainly revolving around the set up of the pedal box and some electrical gremlins. These were much needed changes but lack of testing time forced on event testing and rectification.
So... in the preparation for Brands Hatch a lot of time was spent working to get these working well. Brands Hatch is a fantastic venue and one I have had good results in the past so all was looking good. Then the weather struck ! This superb summer we are having decided that a month's rain would fall over this weekend so the Michelin racing wet tyres would get a really good test.
We arrived on saturday and set up on the pit garage much more organised than previously and planned for the sunday's event cleaned the car getting it gleaming. Huge thanks to Muc Off for their excellent products in this aspect. Anyone with white wheels will know how hard it is to keep clean
The weather looked set to rain all day but I had a sneeky feeling that there would be dry periods so it was going to be a day of lots of tyre changing.
Tony and Rebecca from Triton Motorsport were helping me out on the day along with Matt Rhodes and Tony headed out with me in the car for the first warm up session. Time Attack allow us to run with a engineer for the first session to help debug and set the car up. All was good and although absolutely soaking track, the michelin wets seemed to have endless grip. I didnt want to explore the limits of this in warm up though so once we had got a feel for how the changes I had made to the car were working, we headed back to the garage.
Session two and time to wind it up a little more and see how best to drive on the wet lines on the tyres. The car was behaving impeccably and handling sublimely - I think the spring and damping set up on the BC suspension that BC and I worked on over the winter was spot on. Brakes were great and without the ABS and servo now it was perfectly possible to feel exactly what was going on. The engine felt strong as usual and the smooth delivery of power was perfect for the conditions. No prizes for digital power delivery and lots of sideways moments. The alignment set up that I did up at Roger Clark Motorsport with Matt felt perfect. It really makes a huge difference to have settings that are 100% precise and thanks to mix of BC suspension and HardRace suspension bits it is possible to get 100%.
I was feeling good about the next session
Then the sun came out !! So the tyre warmers went onto the new Team Dynamics wheels and Michelin Slicks and we prepared for a dry session, the first dry session so far. As it was qualifying and points are given for positions it is improtant to get a time on the board for the points so the plan was to get a banker in then wind it up for a full power flyer afterwards. The banker went well exploring the limits of the tyres (my first time on hot slicks) and we clocked a 52 second lap which put us into 3rd place just behind Gav Renshaw and it was time to wind it up.
I upped the boost and switched on the nitrous and prepared for the next lap... Coming out of clearways with 750+ bhp on full slicks with immense grip and a superbly balanced car felt great until boost cut hit. hmmm. I tried again and again boost cut. Something had come amiss. I drove the car round and into the pits, a boost hose must have came off. Tony and Matt sorted the hose on the glowing wastegate that had come loose as fast as they could and I headed out again with a couple of minutes left in the session. Still in 3rd place it was looking good but all cars were out on track and things change quickly... Yet again boost cut hit as I came out of clearways arghhh. So had to drive back to the pits again to investigate so I could get back out but the rain was starting to fall again. The boost hose had come off the turbo and unfortunately there wasnt time to fix it in time for the session. Just as this was discovered Mark Pollard popped in a time 0.04 of a second quicker than me to claim 3rd in qualifying on the last lap of the session.
The rain stopped again and was looking okay, we were set and ready for the final. Tyre warmers on and knowing that we could go significantly quicker. The with 15 minutes to go before the final the rain came down, slowly at first... hmmm still dry enough for slicks. Then a little heavier ... hmmm erm could still run slicks. Then a little heavier and all the drivers were seeing who was going to blink first to swap to wets. It was not getting better. We swapped and got ready.
Again a banker was my plan to get a time on the board first then blitz a flyer. The sessions had been cut short because of countless red flags for crashes, oil spills and lots of rain during the day so there wasnt a huge amount of track time. Again the banker put me in 3rd and after a couple of cool down laps the boost was upped and NOS switched on for a couple of last laps. The car jerked and spluttered every time i put my foot down so limped back to the pits for investigation. Nothing could be seen, nothing was loose, missing or obviously faulty. Some head scratching and with the clock ticking dangerously low, the only option was put some fuel in. It was back to normal heading out of the pits and down paddock hill but the clock was down at zero and no time left to finish a flyer just as Mark Pollard put in a quicker time down to drop me down to 4th.
Getting the fuel gauge working right is now top of the list but aside from that and some other small improvements the car could go again tomorrow and shows good signs of being very competitive. We will be ready for the Anglesey double header and hope to put on a great show there.
Many thanks to the team on the day for their endless tyre changing, and checks and for the ongoing help from sponsors and supporters.
Great Weekend and here's to the next one.

Cheers Gez - really pleased with the changes this year. It is a chunk lighter than last year and the full loom I made, the brakes, suspension and other new things are working great. A bit of learning to set up and other teething issues are holding it back at the minute along with learning to drive on tyres that grip rather than the pirelli p zeros is very interesting to say the least. Very impressed with the wet michelin tyres in particular and really is a leap of faith every lap as to how much grip they have !!
Looks wise, the carbon goodies at the front end have tightened it up on high speed turn in immensely and given it a slightly aggressive look i think
