Him, no. His products, well, I don't love them, but I do like them quite a bit.

Some of my reply got cut off, ironically, as I was using my iPhone.

My point was that just because he's seen as an iconic CEO, and heads up a public company, does not mean that his private health matters can and should be something that has to be provided to the masses. People argue that as *he* is seen by many as being Apple, then this means without him Apple will fail (yeah, Apple is dying, I've not heard that one before, and nearly continuously from some people for the nigh on 18 years I've worked with Apple products, seriously long death knell if you ask me ) and so his private health should be public as it will affect the company.

I don't think that is right or fair. Would the same be true if Bill Gates had been off during his tenure as CEO of Microsoft?

Yes, no doubt about it. Even more so now I would think.

But this is a situation partly of his own making. Rather than introducing an engineer who demonstrates the new product to the gathered journalists, it is Jobs himself who stands up to introduce it. Therefore he is personally inextricably linked to the Apple products, and any ill health issues can seriously dent confidence in the company. It is, no doubt, more perception than reality, but that is what drives markets.

Steve Dies, Apple products are still the best available and iPhone is a resounding success.

Nothing changes unless Apple wants it to.
Keep your chin up Jack.
