Well put it this way, I browsed every 335i/335d currently for sale on PH/Trader between £17-25k this weekend and I instantly moved on if any car didn't have the idrive display binnacle

Whereas I did the exact opposite.
i-drive killed my inlaws 535d, it needs constant updating, the satnav is appalling (e.g. only does first four characters of the postcode!!! My HTC Desire does a much better job), I don't need to pointlessly substitute buttons with computer stuff as I bought the car to drive, not **** around with some fiddly **** and worst of all, it robs THE handiest storage space in the entire car.
In fact my first reason for going for a 3er over a 5er is that 3er can be had without i-drive. Then I realised they drive a fair bit better overall too. And are quicker.
I really do hate i-drive.

As i don't rip around the public roads pushing my car to the limits, mentioning no names, i prefer toys and comfort, so for me, the more buttons the merrier!
This is probably the reason i've never bought a BM, far to plain looking....IMO of course.....

LOL at owners of ancient chavved up Scoobies having a pop at true motoring icons like the M3, M5, etc.
Speaks volumes.

scooby or 335i/335d
80% of scooby owners would have the 335i/335d IF THEY COULD AFFORD IT mo

But with BMW reckoning most buyers of the 3 Series Coupe will have a combined household income of £70,000 p/a, it’s unlikely to deter its target market

So you must be one of the 20% then
Mattee, thinking of growing up a bit and seriously considering a used 335d touring next. No point me asking if you recommend one!
As a long term prospect, what is the reliability like? Any turbo or engine/drivetrain issues that are starting to materialise, especially with a remap?

It is a bit rude to bring affordability into it. A 3 series is affordable for many and a fraction of the value of an average house, that is why they are so popular, as well as for most people being competent all rounders, as long as it doesn't snow too much or you happen to have parked a rear wheel on wet grass.
