It is in the brochure and also in longs book. The brace is for stiffening purposes. That's what they do Oskar.

It also mentions in Chris Rees book of imprezas that the RB5 was considerably stiffer than other imprezas with it's bespoke shell with rigid rear bulk head.

That brace wont stiffen up anything, if you think that you must be stupid.

And the "rigid rear bulkhead" is the brace that we have already established is screwd in the threads that are present on all 93-00 Imprezas, even the non turbos!

And i dont care what is writen in a book, i have many magazines with complete rubbish written in them. You must understand that it is impossible for a RB5, witch is a regular Turbo2000, to have any special shell and only produced in limited numbers, it would cost massive amount of money to develop and produce a special shell for a car that is not special in any way other than some stickers and some other extras...

And im sorry that i called you retarded, stupid is a better word. But i still stand by that F1_fan is super retarded after his post on page one.

Very close, 218 Bhp and 237 Bhp for the PPP.

This is the best photo of my old RB5 boot area

There is some profit to be made from an RB5 with 12 months MOT!

The RB5 was the same as any other UK Turbo with 215 bhp.
The PS was 218

I see you're right. I just had a look through the original brochure to see if it mentions the bodyshell, but its not mentioned.

RB5 for £2k? supposing it isn't riddled with faults and insubmountable issues - I'd go for it.

If I'm wrong then I'm wrong and I'll take it on the chin. But just answer a couple of questions to clear things up -

When the RB5 was released in Jan 99 was it the only Impreza available ( at that time ) to benefit from a ridgid rear bulkhead, meaning non folding rear seats and the brace. As standard out of the factory. If not, which other models had this ( as standard ).

You said that the brace was not for stiffening purposes and actually there to support the rear seats. Please could you tell me why the rear seats would need supporting when other models didn't.

because the rear seats are just Foam, they do not have any backing what so ever,
They do have a inner metal frame work, but no backing.. Hence the rear brace.

oskar,

I can dole it out, but I can also take it Whilst far from a retard (certainly further than you anyway just joking ) I will admit I am wrong. However in my defence I can only say that my information was garnered from the dealer's sales information (from Subaru) at the time (as I nearly bought one new) and subsequent information form reliable sources all claiming (as in the text reproduced above) that the RB5 used a stiffer shell with a solid rear bulkhead.

To find it it doesn't is actually quite disappointing as it means even back the Subaru were selling us short.

What I will agree is that the poxy brace in the pictures will add no measurable stiffening whatsoveer.

Anyway my apologies to you and I hope you take the olive branch of apology being offered in good spirits: D

My V3 Type R has a brace and non folding rear seats.

The rear bar is just to reinforce the rear soft foam seat as SiV6Si has said, anyone who thinks it is some sort of chassis brace is fricking deluded!!.........its not even connected to two solid mounts like other bracing so will not stiffen feckall!

I wasn't stating it wasn't there it's just that most of the RB5's if not all are registered on the RB5OC. An I hadn't seen another registered in Gloucester. Gloucestershire YES just not Gloucester.
