Lorries in the snow.

He probably had an CPC and that's why he got the job as Transport Manager/planner, something every Haulage company needs to obtain an Operating Licence, whether they have one or employ someone with one

The ignorance / stupidity evident in this thread beggars belief. I suspect that many peoples opinions would change after spending one morning sat alongside and HGV driver: let alone if they had to do the job themselves.
One further point: all of the barely literate remarks, berating lorry drivers as stupid, make me smile.

I have never driven a truck in my life, but for me those who do have my support all day long. All the problems i have come across have been car drivers who simply dont understand that 6000rpm in first gear is not going to get you moving in the ******* snow!! Honestly, what the hell are these ***** doing on the road in these conditions?
The roads should be reserved for commercial transport only in these conditions.

I`m a class 1 driver myself, its just not some car drivers that are clueless, its also some HGV drivers that don`t give a toss either.
The worse thing in the transport industry is work related pay where you get paid for what you do rather than by the hour, that encourages some drivers to race round like headless chickens and woe betide anything that gets in their way whatever the conditions are.
Yeh their are a lot of clueless car drivers on the road that don`t understand HGV braking distances and how long it takes to stop a fully loaded 44 tonne artic especially in the wet, caravan drivers are the worse... They will be poodling along at around 50 on a motorway in the first lane, you then come up behind one so you pull out to overtake it.
This is normally what happens:
A) They then increase their speed as they don`t like to be overtaken by a lorry which then leaves you stuck in the middle lane like a right lemon.
B) Once you have overtaken them they then pull out and re-overtake you and pull back in front of you and slow back down to 50 again.
At the end of the day their aint much common sense on the road at all, a lot of people don`t give a **** as long as they get from A to B as quick as poss regardless of the conditions. I aint branding everyone with the same tag as you do get sensible drivers, not many though.

Lorry drivers are certainly getting worse - Ive noticed a massive difference in the time that I was away. Class Oneski drivers seem to be the problem.

I am parking in Asda warehouse's carpark at the mo'. Can't get up the track from home to the main roads.
To be honest, I would much rather negotiate a load of lorries than some of the car drivers.
I ventured out for work yesterday, for the first time since the snow started and the lorries were fantastic, letting me out etc
The minute I got on the main road, every flaming car driver who got behind me was straight on the bum of my car
Give me lorries any day of the week

"...the odd numpty..." - you must be kidding? Even in normal weather and traffic there is an endless supply of imbeciles. Much of their stupidity (or more correctly their stupid behaviour) can be attributed to their ignorance, but thats little defence, and little comfort if theyve just been involved in an accident with a 20+ tonne vehicle (that they brought about themselves).

I do a 130 mile trip a day for work, Dundee to Aberdeen and back again
I dont have a problem with lorry drivers, none of them ever cause me a problem, its the other idiots that are driving the cars/4x4 that are the problem !

I understand the hill part, but on straight, FLAT road, there is no need for it.
