As sad as it is it looks like the car has to go.
+1... police now days wont do anything about it, unless something has happened

Even when something does happen, they don't do anything about it...I've had 2 stereo's nicked form my car (one happened right across the road from the police station)

Reported it, someone came and looked, then heard nothing more about it... I don't know why they even bother

agree with your comments, as said before the police dont do anything. this has happened before to me and i never heared a thing since from the police. i have a fair amount of security.. driveway..gates..security post, cctv, warning light, disclok, alarm, tracker, wifes car parked infront of it and there still trying to get it so the only way to stop them is to not have the car.

More sound advice too. However big and strong people think that they are, most will never be prepared for a team of blokes with kitchen knives-its just not worth it.
I wouldnt expect miracles from the Police.Determined thieves wont care about cctv. All dark clothing, gloves and hooded tops mean that identifying anyone is nigh on impossible. However,at least let them try and help-passing patrols etc.
I can imagine that most coppers would love to catch this type of determined scumbag and at this time of year, with people leaving their cars to defrost unattended, there will be operations to get them.
I bang on about blackjax, but I think that its such a fantastic tool,so worthwhile considering.Just be prepared that thieves arent stupid and are more than prepared to come back. This has happened recently near me with an elderly couple being targetted at knife point for their neighbours Evo.

i think its defo time to sell up..ive had my fun and now its time to protect the family and if that means it has to go then it has to go.

I cant believe you wrote that, First off, there is no way I would sell my car because some thieving junky scum was goin to try and steal it. He thinks hes going to surprise you,but he aint.

As for putting the missis and kid first, of course thats what you do,Ive got 3 wee boys 11,9 and 3 but there is no way id be lying down and selling my car. Get a mini baseball bat or something that can be swung quickly in a confined space and be ready to smash him, I know my wife would feel safer knowing that im willing to stand toe to toe and protect my family and belonings. You must be a diffrent type of person to me and i dont mean that in a bad way, I would actually be hyped up ready for them/him, Best of luck on whatever you decide, but selling the car aint the correct decision.

ill save this and see what you say if it happenes to you.. having people smash your door down in the night willing to do what it takes to get your keys doesnt make me want to stand there and be a hero just so my wife thinks im a man.. i want them out of my house as quick as they came in to protect my main priorities, obviously if protecting them means i have to put myself in the way then yes ill do that but im not going to make the situation any more complicated by having ago

Yeah, really impressive. If someone wants something, they will get it. Did you read about this a few weeks back?

'The attackers then threatened to pour boiling water over Ms Woodland's three-year-old granddaughter'.

Threats against my daughter and an iron tied to my skin for 30 minutes or co-operate and then they sod off, hmm...

Sorry to hear this mate.
Not sure about selling the car, that's up to you, but family are always first in my book.
Unless you're 100% sure of yourself/been in scraps before etc, you might not want a bat that ends up getting used on you if it gets taken off you.
A lot of folk haven't actually been faced with violence or people willing to carry it out so it can be a shock when it happens.
You can certainly upgrade your door with deadbolts top and bottom.
Give the police a phone. You should have community cops who cover your area. They could view the CCTV. The best they can really do is give your house a drive by in the evening. They can't be everywhere and even if you ask for a driveby, they might not make it due to other calls etc.

Sorry but seeing it from a similar position as yourself family wise and knowing that you have been through this before I think perhaps it is time to get rid, either that or find a garage somewhere for it.
I'd not want anyone breaking into my house where my wife and daughter are to get the keys for my car. I'd leave the keys on the kitchen table so if they did they would hopefully be straight back out. At the end of a day, it's a car, it's insured, it can be replaced at a later date. It's not worth risking your family for. Lets face it, if they were willing to break in and come upstairs then I doubt they would leave quietly if you didn't hand over the keys.
It's easy to spout bull **** about having your mates around every night just waiting ignore that, family comes first.
totally agree with that!! i myself have recently been tro the same thing hence why mine is up for sale. i have installed cctv, cctv stickers every where. my car has a tracker fitted, cat 1 alarm, and the gear diplock thingy. but still i feel its not worth it, the stories you hear nowadays are terrible. plp getting stabbed for it and so on. them taking my car aint what scares me. the risk of not seeing my missus and my little boy.......... now that scares me!

gotta say these past few days ive really really been considering keeping cos i no i'll be gutted to let go, but reading this post has made my mind up.

good luck with ya sale mate and in the mean time take care of you and family

Inform the police, but from my experience of them down here in Newport, it is just a waste of a phone call. *

Just leave the keys, in view tbh. During all my scooby ownership, I have always left my keys on the bottom of the stairs out of reach of any letterbox. At the end of the day, the family are more important than the car, and it would be best to let them get the keys and be gone, if they are planning something. Either that, or do a car swap with a mate for a couple of weeks.

If you can, dogs are just about the best sound detector there is. My two will let me know if a pin is dropped outside the house half a mile away

Selling up would not enter my mind. One day we will all get fed up of running our lives in fear of these gimps and something will have to be done.

* To put the comment about the police in context, we had a chap come into our shop with stolen goods (a model RC helicopter worth about 800 quid). We gave the police a cctv dvd, print outs of his face, the stolen item, his work address, his number plate from his private car. 7 weeks later he turns up asking for his goods, police had not bothered to try and find him. He then is no where to be found, doesn't turn up from work, and does not return to the address he was living at. To top it all off, they then 'lost' the helicopter evidence. This was after the first police chap saying to me 'great, we'll get this guy, as we have everything we need'.

To bloody right they'd have a shock,im sorry but i'd do the time if somebody come in to my house at night whether it be for my car or my stuff i'd give them a warning im armed and then i think you know the rest.
My children and my partner as well as all ive worked for is in my house and that to me means more than anything or some scum bags life that wants to sell my stuff for his next fix or go for joy ride in my pride and joy.

Take the 150watt light off and fit a 500watt.

All security lights on my house and garden are 500watt, and they light up the whole garden.
Angle them down and you`ll bathe your whole area in perfect near sunlight. Then they will be put off. Have as many lights and remote switches as you can, just angled down so you don`t pi$$ the neighbours off.
Those remote PIR switches are great, set them up so if anyone goes near your property they make the lights come on.

Its a crappy situation.
Maybe put a sign up under the light that says car fitted with tracker, and is immobilised over night and a key won`t start it??

But me I`d DEFFO swap it to a 500watt PIR lamp instead.

get a 60watt outside light fitted above front door , then connect it to a movement sensor on the front door only turn this on after 11oclock , but before doing so take a 1mm drill bit and drill a small hole in the ali part of bulb then fill bulb with petrol from a syringe , the moment they boot the front door they will be covered in burning petrol . just make sure you have a foam extinguisher in the hallway to put the fire out on your doorstep not the skank let em burn

if someone were to get in ya house and you confront them, you got to make sure he dont get out alive, coz if you were to kick seven bells out of him, he will get you done for assault, good old 12 gauge will do the job, if he cant talk he cant get you done, and will go down as self defence.

I for one cannot imagine a single instance of how that could possibly go wrong. Good call.

Family before car everytime! It's not saying that the scum has won the battle but that he's family are his main priority. People seem to value these cars way too much imho!

this really does sum up the sad state of affairs of this country. as a parent of two little ones i can understand the OP wanting out of scooby ownership...but where does that end? dont buy a plasma, laptop, nice house in a nice area? scum these days will slit your throat for a tenner. i dont advocate violence, BUT, so long as you believe your life or that of your family is in danger you can defend yourself as much as you need to.

me...i wouldnt sell up and let them win. i would obviously beef up door security and lighting etc. i have a blackjax on my car and would just hand over the keys. of course, family comes first but there's no reason why life's little luxuries have to be forsaken cos of others. i do feel for you mate...

can the car not be taken to friend/family house no car no need to come thu the front door?
have a good soild wooden door fitted thats what we have and three chubb locks on one side and some metal studs on the hinge side them banging away on that would give you a little bit of time to get your wits about you
i do feel for you mate it must be scary but just try and make every thing as difficult for them as possable then hopfully they may not bother borrow a dog would be good but again you cant borrow a dog for ever
my friend has as a siren for when people come thu is gate in to his yard if you can make it so that when some one is snopping around big lights come on and a little noise i cant see them hanging around
as for shot guns the first shot has to go in the floor as thats there warning the second goes in them has to be done that way as you dont want to be done for murder and the police can tell because of the spread pattern from the chokes
we have had alot of problems with pikeys over the years to the point they came to are small holding with a shot gun to shot are two dogs if we let them out while they broke in to are workshop we had them on cctv we moved two weeks later
