How about a one of those sensors that go off if someone gets near the car? Ive heard them "please step away from the vehicle" jobbas. Will wake everyone up but as long as its reliable, your neighbours wont mind, will keep them on guard too and scare the bejesus out of the guy whos trying it?

Chinvasion sell trackers with SIM card capability. (1) its under £60 (2) its trackable and (3) shove a SIM card in there and when you've noticed your car is nicked, SMS TEXT the sim card and it will shut down your car.

Also, H from WMI has a device that if the car is being hijacked, if you dont put in a code into the keypad, the car shuts off and goes on a mental. I think he said its £180 thereabouts. His SN name is B4D HK

These type of things are getting more and more common and it's hard to know what to do for the best.
I personally wouldn't get rid of the car,it means straight away that they have won.as said beef up security is a start, locks lights etc etc.
this happened to my auntie and he bf a few years back who live in Cheshire.the thieving scum put a concrete paving slab through their front door at 3am and took the keys for her brand new BMW z4 and the keys for her bfs 330ci.
Steve came running down the stairs screaming but they were already out the door,he stayed in the house and just let them go,when they reviewed their CCTV it was a good job as another one of them was hiding next to the front door in the porch with a paving slab raised, ready to bring it down on his head if he came out.1 week later 2 new BMW on the driveway from the insurance.
baseball bays are not all that,I've been attacked with one, matey swung it at my head,I put my arms up,blocked it,turned and ran all in one motion, hurt like hell but better than a cracked open head.one of my friends also took a bat of someone threatening him with one and twatted the guy with his own weapon.
I'd go for a machete, big one 24 inch and razor sharp, swing it at the scummy bast@rd/s and take his arm/head/leg of.put a big slice in the bannister with it,wipe it off,put offenders prints on it and he attacked me with it first officer.
I see both sides of opinions and have two kids myself but you can't let people like this get away with it and if you do it once, you will always live in fear.one of the reasons why the younger generation is so f@£&ed now as they get away with everything,we need to stand up to these people.
Just my two pence worth

thanks again for your comments and suggestions, i think selling up is the way to go wether you see it as them winning or not..its happened before and it was the worst experience ive had to deal with. the few seconds of banging whilst they kick through the door are harrowing especially not knowing what they are armed with and who they will hurt to get what they want. i actually stood in my daughters bedroom door way fearing the worst. so im sorry if they have won by me selling up then they have won, im not going through that again for a car. like ive said i have lots of security already including flood light, rock door, cctv etc so the safest way is no car no hassle for me.

i suppose were all different, i chose to keep the car after last time and where have i got.. back to sleepless nights and in fear of what might be coming. no thank you

everyone has to make their own choices and i respect you for yours. and although others, and indeed myself, have mentioned not letting them winning...it really is just a catch all for not being victimised and allowing this sort of behaviour to ruin and dictate our lives. i personally have never been what you have been through and if i had maybe i would think the same as you...but as i said in my post, where does it stop...do we limit ourselves on everything in case somebody else might want it?

this may sound daft but......

you can get some of that carpet rail stuff (wood that has carpet nails in) cut it to size and put some of that velcro tape on it and attach it to the underside of the handles on the car. You can leave your keys in a place where they dont have to bother you, so they take the keys, then they open the car will ***** their fingers, the carpet rail will end up on the floor and they will drive off. Police can then check the dna from the blood on the rail, and hopefuly have a match and arrest the scum. Doesnt help with your car but you have made your decision anyway to get rid, but it stops them doing it again for a while

I too respect the OP's decision to sell up.

Like some others have said, we're not all the same. Not all people are fighters and are ready for a conflict when it beckons.

Just this year, I pulled into my drive one evening and as soon as I stepped out, I was approached by two young guys, one was wearing a balaclava and the other with a hoodie. The hooded guy asks for my car keys to which I replied, "You what". He then turns to his accomplice in the hoodie, looking perplexed. At this point I don't know what I'm up against and I certaintly aint giving up my possession so easily. I then ask him, "What are you going to do?". He then fashions his hand as a gun and says, "I'll shoot you man".

The thoughts going through my mind are to hit him and then tackle the hooded one, but I'm staying reserved as they know where I and my family live. The hooded one gets spooked and says, "Come on lets go, he's got something on him", and then turns to leave. They both then jog off but before leaving the hooded one says, "We know where you are!". Thats it, now and all I see is red and I mean I can literally see their blood.

I run into my house and grab my combat m**ete, which I keep on a shelf near my bed, and give chase. They ran for their lives that day. I then came back to my house and my missus can't stop me from jumping into my car. I did a few blocks looking for them but to no avail.

My wife had already called my younger brothers, who arrive not long after and a man hunt ensues, but they'd obviously gone to ground.

I don't ever look for trouble but if it comes my way, then I'll put my martial arts expertise to the test.

I believe a person's family and property are sacred and worth dying for. No one has the right to take your property and you have the right to defend it by whatever means.

you may be surprised to know robbers dont tend to $hit on their own doorstep, so the chances are the area he lives in is fine.

They could have followed him home once from where he works so where he lives isnt going to solve that !!

im not moving i think its abit easier to sell the car than move my whole family to another house. the area i live in is fine, its the car which is a target as we all know. like it or not all of us that own high performance cars are potential targets for theives, im not saying that we are all going to encounter what i and others have been through but thats just the way it is unfortunatly.

I'd not want anyone breaking into my house where my wife and daughter are to get the keys for my car. I'd leave the keys on the kitchen table so if they did they would hopefully be straight back out. At the end of a day, it's a car, it's insured, it can be replaced at a later date. It's not worth risking your family for. Lets face it, if they were willing to break in and come upstairs then I doubt they would leave quietly if you didn't hand over the keys.
It's easy to spout bull **** about having your mates around every night just waiting ignore that, family comes first.

really sorry ure thinking of selling up due to these scum *******s,
but its obvious no matter how much security u have if they want it they will take it and if they cant take it the will damage it,
what concerns me more is it may look like they are checking out the car but what about ure house.imnot trying to scare u but they will have checked that out if they wanted the keys as thats the easiest way to steal the cars nowadays.
family is more important than a bit of metal, but uve still got to stand up and be counted,
i keep a bat behind ma door, sword beside ma bed and ma keys sit in full view in ma kitchen next to my 2 gentle loving staffies lol, they may get in but im sure they wouldnt get away

have you tried degrading to a lower model? im selling my sti7 prodrive and from now on im running my classic uk turbo model that i have peanuts in, the first time this sort of thing happened to me i built a garage in the bk yard, i have a six foot fence all the way round, 6ft gate with carpet grippers screwed on the top. padock the gates at night, have 3 secuirity lights up, and cctv with sticker on every window.. and still i got another similar thing happen a few months ago,, so only option left is to sell up.

so i totally feel for ya mate

someone i work with was having trouble with this previously (kept a 1993 911 Turbo on the drive)

he was a sparky by trade and fitted a standard motion sensor light outside which also activated a rather powerful floor lamp in the spare room at the front the house on a delay. would be thieves trip the outside light and carry on hoping they havnt woke anyone up. next thing, they see a bedroom light switch on so they pick up their skirts and leg it.

i know its not the most exciting deterrent listed here but from what i saw it was rather effective.

I hope you manage to sort this out one way or another.

just a thought for anyone who wants some security that won't get you in trouble - I have a friend who works in the countryside doing all sorts, he has twice this season been spiked by blackthorn bushes which have very hard sharp spikes. Besides the immediate pain and discomfort, once pricked by one the wound is very likely to become infected and can turn very bad very quickly requiring a visit to hospital and a round of antibiotics.

Plant it all around your perimeter. It' won't stop them the first time but they won't come back.

I have to admit, before reading this post, I always take my keys upstairs & place them next to my bed. My girlfriend laughs at me & says I'm paranoid but I don't listen.

I agree that you fight for your belongings & possesions. Yes, it's a performance car but what if you sold it & bought an Astra, who's to say somebody wont want to steal that as well? I think you'll find that the majority of cars stolen are probably not high performance.

I believe in the term that if somebody really wants something, they will take it, somehow?

When I say "somebody", I don't mean any old pikey but sombody that knows what they're doing. Not every scum bag out there is a junky, some are proffesional stealers & good at what they do.

Was there an ending to this story? Did you have any more trouble or did you sell up or neither?
