Voxer - can you & some of your VXR friends come along to next years 30-130 day? I'd genuinely (sp?) like to see you there re how a powerful FWD car gets along against the same albeit 4WD. It's a rolling start so there can be no excuses

tht sounds like a nice mess somehow the engine in the civic was in one piece. but the internals of the g box were in millions of tiny ones those v tec engines are hell of a strong wen serviced properly though

It would only serve a purpose if against similarly powered cars.
#370
If you knew my past you wouldn't be saying that.
I don't mind going up against similarly powered cars on a 30-130 day, it would be a great day, especailly watching some of those monsters, the issue is distance, the last one was near 500miles away from me with it being a 1000 mile round trip.
Unfortunately Scottie land doesn't have as many fun places for this type of thing as Engerland does.
if there's one that's not going to kill me on fuel then defo.

Where abouts in Scotland are you bud?
This thread has certainly got me thinking though if nothing else......
been looking for a kinda descent, big friendly cruiser for when the kids arrive in the very near future..... Vectra VXR might just be the best option!

If budget allows I'd go for the newer Insignia VXR. Then again on that sort of budget you could easily get yourself a second hand M5.

I'm in Ayrshire m8, down by Burns country.

No, toys at all, not even elecy windows, central locking, airbags, abs etc, but thats why it's only 1100kg!!
Voxer, what 1/4 mile times did your mates car get against the RS?
I know where you're coming from Tony, the brakes were very poor as standard,(a bit improved with 4 pots and decent discs/pads, but still not the best), and a few arb's, lock kits, braces' etc has transformed the car.
I also blew the engine at xmas , but Api came to the rescue with a forged rebuild.
Not killed the box (yet), but did 2 on the UK 2.5 classic i had. There's a lot more to tuning an early impreza than a remap, but the weight saving makes up for it.

If you can't make it then get some mates along. I'd like to see how the VXRs go. Was a great laugh this year, mix of standard cars mildly tuned ones + big power monsters. Great day out.

The vec will never be a 1/4 mile king for the same reason the Focus will get beaten. There just too heavy for good launches.

Good morning Voxer
Heres a few facts to help with the debate. Heres my old Vectra VXR with a £500 remap (nothing else)
Thats 300 bhp and 394 lb/ft
and now, for some in gear acceleration results taken from dynolicious
0-10 mph 1.02 seconds
0-20 mph 1.89 seconds
0-30 mph 2.72 seconds
0-40 mph 3.89 seconds
0-50 mph 5.01 seconds
0-60 mph 6.14 seconds
0-70 mph 7.67 seconds
30-70 time is 4.95 seconds
and by comparison
Standard UK Turbo is 6.6 seconds
http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/...o-4WD-/200077/
Focus RS is 5.8 seconds
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_w....php?id=238456
Evo X FQ330 SST is 4.6 seconds
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_w....php?id=238456
and a Standard Impreza STI330s ???
5.1 seconds
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_w....php?id=238456
Now dont get me wrong, im not going to claim that dynolicious is 100 % accurate, but the 1/4 mile time in that run was 14.5 seconds ... which remapped VXRs can hit all day long.
So its going to be accurate to within one or two tenths of a second. If not faster, a remapped Vec VXR is going to keep pace with a PPP 2.5 STI once rolling from 30mph.

Only way would be if some fan site somewhere has a scan of the magazine, but i cant find any.
Point being - this isnt a "who's is best" competition -this is about what happens when you go up against cars in the real world, and find yourself surprised when it keeps up.

As for the original comparison (between the astra and the type R)
Standard Astra VXR with 240bhp
http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/....0-VXR/216726/
30-70mph in 5.7 seconds
anybody got a time for classic type R ?

a £600 ecutek remap on a 330s gives 380bhp
As Banny said.. there is a HUGE difference between a Prodrive map and an ecutek map...

We seem to have lost our way on this thread the original post was an Astra VXR vs a standard classic STi Typer R the OP is obviously gay beyond belief to get beat ...
"hello people...i was up against a vxr last night and was shocked how he completley bumed me!!! cant not belive the proformance of them things!!...is this usual for a vxr to eat a standard sti type r or has he got a few secrets under the bonnet???"

^^ It seems to have moved on to the Vectra VXR is all
TX.
PS
Standard Type R is 276hp & 1200kg = 230hp per ton.
Standard Astra VXR is 237hp & 1400kg = 170hp per ton. Even a 300hp one is "only" 214hp per ton
Once you start modding the scoob (apples vs apples) the diff is night & day.
