ASTRA VXR!!! :(

hello people...i was up against a vxr last night and was shocked how he completley bumed me!!! cant not belive the proformance of them things!!...is this usual for a vxr to eat a standard sti type r or has he got a few secrets under the bonnet???:wonder:

scooby L 10 May 2010 11:12 AM

times have moved on... the Impreza is no longer the stud in the stable mate... especially a 10 year old stud

vava voom 10 May 2010 11:23 AM

this 10 year old stud raped a 06 wrx just the other day tho!!! this cant be true!!!

banny sti 10 May 2010 11:29 AM

240 bhp fwd car beats 280bhp awd, it is quite quite believable as he has lower transmission losses and better aerodynamics. The 06 WRX is quite poor in standard form and would get beaten my most hot hatches.

Herbie. 10 May 2010 11:37 AM

Ive driven one and they are VERY torquey at low revs. It was standard too. I was quite impressed but they do run out of puff at higher revs. I could only imagine what a remapped one would feel like. Quite swift I bet!

TonyBurns 10 May 2010 11:37 AM

It was probably remapped, you can get 300bhp out of a VXR astra quite easily.

Tony:)

vava voom 10 May 2010 11:38 AM

i think i need to do some upgrades under the bonnet! this is not acceptable!!:cry::cry:

scooby L 10 May 2010 11:39 AM

My friends S3 (260bhp) could keep up with my STI (300bhp).. First with me leading then with him in front... only difference in performance was driver nerve in the end. (on a track of course)

my mates got a nuremburg ltd edition 300 plus bhp:norty: gona invest in one myself:D

my94wrx 10 May 2010 11:57 AM

the vxr is a quick in the dry and once moving, be a different story in the wet though.

vava voom 10 May 2010 11:57 AM

well i think iam in need of a front mount, induction, decat and a remap.....any one selling a cheap fmic???or induction??:(

paulbu 10 May 2010 12:00 PM

The standard 237bhp Astra VXR torque steers for England. With 300 bhp it must be a nightmare.

Forget the induction, unless it's an STi panel filter.
Go for the decat and remap, if possible, first, (some ecu's can't be remappped and need an aftermarket one......I know, I was that man),, and take advice on the FMIC.

My UK classic gained over 60bhp from a better TMIC, Full decat, 3-port boost solenoid and a Bob Rawle remap via a LINK ecu.

I'm sure yours could do the same, and with a 280bhp starting point, would be pretty quick. Your turbo might run out of puff though, so ask around before doing anything.

the list goes on!!...will have to get stronger internals if i upgrade the turbo no??...also is it not better to do the remap once all mods are done??? so are you suggesting to get a better tm rather then fm?

STI Mav 10 May 2010 12:08 PM

I've very recently swapped my 06 Plate STI with PPP (expecting our 2nd baby in due course - so needed the space) which was putting out a proven 316/335 for a 57 plate Vectra VXR which I have now got a Thorney motorsport Bluefin on. With just the Bluefin installed the Vectra VXR prodcues 300+ bhp and 350lbs/ft Torque and is as quick if not margionally quicker in a straight line than my STI was - granted it's not going to win any trophy's off the line but on the move the Vectra is definatley as quick.

We put it side by side next to my mates standard Mk2 RS at the weekend (private test track naturally) and from a rolling start the Vectra actually pulled out a 2 car's length lead in just under a mile - neither of us could quite believe it but that was the end result.

As mentioned technology has definately moved on and the likes of the Focus ST, Astra VXR, Megane CUP's etc etc are all able to provide straight line performance that will easily match the WRX and in many cases the standard STI's. Of course straight line performance is all well and good, but many of these FWD hot hatches (including the Vectra VXR) are nowhere near as good in the corners - that's where the good old 4WD system in the Scooby will usually win outright.

Tidgy 10 May 2010 12:29 PM

my guess is the vxr was fettled with. the short ratio on the type should make it leave the vxr pretty easy if it was standard, up to a certain speed anyway.

on anything but bone dry roads the vxr will be a spec in the mirror, went out with a mate whos running about 300 in his, my classic at 340 was marginal quicker in a straight line at speed (very marginal), off the line and low speeds he was nowhere and twisties he was nowhere, i wans't even trying and he said he couldn't keep up. the roads were a bit damp though.

wrbhawk 10 May 2010 12:43 PM

How much bhp do Type Rs have standard?

Yes, but Scoobs have got fatter, heavier and softer with every incarnation while the competition has caught up.

yep, the biggest thing to note though is the gearing is shorter which makes a big difference to acceleration

kully 10 May 2010 01:09 PM

As mentioned already , with the weight it will have a better power to weight ratio , the VXR will probably have a remap and you're 10 yr old will have lost a bit of power .

New cars nowaday will give us a bit of a shock , a bit like the leon cupra FR on the motorway , WOW it was quick .

Lol - the good old Subaru come back :D

The ST's and RS's are better than most of the VXR's etc but they still aern't going to keep pace with 4WD perfomance - used to love driving the STI hard through the twisties.

Westwood2006 10 May 2010 01:24 PM

We need to keep evolving... We owe it to ourselves to stay at least 100bhp ahead of the hot hatch brigade. Preferably 200bhp ahead! I remember being embarrassed by a VW Passat diesel in my old 2 litre. OK I was in the wrong gear... but still a PASSAT for Christs sake! AND he was wearing a flat cap.

Don't have any troubles like that now in my 2.5 classic! :thumb:

paulbu 10 May 2010 01:31 PM

Subaru currently manufacture three models that would dismiss any other standard 'hot hatch' in the straight line dash to 100mph or in a point to point over a B road and by a country mile. Technology has moved on since the Subarus of the 1990s.

banny sti 10 May 2010 01:50 PM

Had a go against one getting on the M62 from Manchester in the dry a while back, in a newage running a 2.5, MD321T+ and he was nowhere to be seen. Good fun though as he was glued to my bumper as I thought I would give him hope lol

Banny

lol :lol1: i agree...subaru need to wake up and get back to the drawing bored....more power less sh1t
