Project 2
Good luck Clive, looks like a massive change of direction with it.
The loom and dash stuff all look like the parts removed from the Gobstopper between the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

Thanks Steven and yes the complete loom is from The Gobstopper
Wrighty : There is no set budget is it's really hard to set one and stick to it.
In saying that we are still remaining sensible as possible and 80% of P2 has now been bought.
ProdriveTony: thanks mate
Project is still going well and the shell work stage is long but once it's painted the car will come together fairly quickly due to the extra time spent on shell preparation.
The underside is half prepared for paint with all parts removed and off for powder coating this week.
Will be so nice for Daz and I to start actually building the car when painted and for the first time we shall feel as though we have a race car in front of us rather than a shell.
I guess this is the stage where many projects stop as it really is a constant push to get over this stage of the build.

Decided to opt for the Hyperflow 660GT2 front mounted Intercooler even though we knew it would prove a mare fitting.
First obvious clue was the top bracket running across the top needed to be removed to allow fitment.

After removing the bracket and offering the IC into position we could then work out how & what to do about a new bracket design.
A dummy bracket was formed to provide us with the curvature required.

............... and this is the finished article.

That’s the top sorted and now for the rest

We needed to remove the old and replace our new BC ET Coil Overs.

The spring was removed to allow maximum compression. This should indicate the max travel when fitting wheel and tyre and allow us to see clearances.
These are the temp inner arch sections we will use to gauge clearances, pipe work etc.

and these pics suggest the clearance is good. 10mm clearance on full compression will allow for stress movement.

Daz had been really busy. We have another guy (Scott) who has been assisting with fabrication works.
The logistics for building this thing is friggen mad. The volume of work that goes on behind the scenes is also mad.
We are still on that long upward slope to having the shell painted as preparing and the dummy fitting of everything needs to by done first. Once we get there and it's painted it should progress easier.
The plumbing of the 35 billet wheel also needs addressing and we are on the case with that.
We shall be welding bespoke 2.5" pipe work to the turbine outlet housing for clearance purposes of missing the new inner arch section that needs to be fabricated. Creases would have been evident in the Samco hosing to achieve the required degree.
These are a brand new product of RCM that have just been delivered from The States.
A wing box will also be designed and fabricated and will be fed using large ducting.
Fuel cell should be here next week and waiting for a reply on some 1.5 or 2.0mm sheet of S275JR which is a carbon steel and should take the weight of the fuel cell and mounting tray that weight around 50kg’s.

The former driver appeared to have had 15 inch legs and it proved impossible for me to fit in so seat bracket modification was needed.
The previous brace was removed and new ones made and fitted.
This is an important issue as the stress on seat mounts are huge when on a good set up and slicks. I’ve witnessed two big offs at Brands both caused by seat bracket failures as I saw both cars in the scrutinized in the pits.I too have had three seat brackets failures when I raced National karts.
Positioning of the seat is also important as I need to be able to reach the dash whilst braced with a 6 point harness. Problem being the seat needed to be relocated much further back due to leg length (hence overhead switches in many race cars).
This is the former bracket that needed removing.

Due to having a fuel cell in the boot the old filler cap etc will not be used so it needed to go.

A small plate was welded into position

And filler applied

This isn’t finished as further rubbing down is required

I’ve ploughed many hours into paint schemes and decal designs. No decals or signage on these two pics but toying with the idea of a grey or white base colour?
The finished car must contain the yellow as it’s my company colour so we are governed by what base colours will go with the yellow.
There will be several sponsors written on the car when finished.
Fire some options or opinions fellas ??
If white we shall be going for Ford Frozen White (same as the white Ford Focus)
(Haven’t had time to put bolt on arches on this image yet)

If grey it will be either RB5 grey (or blue as they call it?) OR there are a couple of BMW gun metal looking greys ?

Superb looking work there Clive. Dont go White, it's been done to death. That grey rendering looks superb. I'd go with either Porsche seal grey or BMW steel grey.
Can't wait to see this build

Must admit we prefer the grey opposed to the white. Everyone will say we tried to copy The Gobstopper if it remains white and we want P2 to have it's own identity.
Agree Andy, yellow mirrors and other small details will blend well. I have many pics of different versions of the grey and there are several companies that will be appearing on the finished car.
I have some wicked ideas for the graphics and they will finish the car off nicely.
It should look okay when completed

mmmmm rose ?
Looked at huge amount of whites and came down to Audi Diamond White or Ford Frozen White.
Of all the 100's of whites Ford Frozen White contains less % colours than any other making it the purest white available.

I guess you warped the panel when you welded the filler flap in place with that amount of filler needed?
Loving the project though, will be a real sight for soar eye's when completed and a power house to boot!!

This is the stealthy "Rat" look I’ve been working on.
No gloss but the silk finish. Again, I have not included decals that will be evident went complete.
We are having side exit exhaust but not in the location in the pic. Team Ice silencer then branching out to both sides and exiting behind both rear wheels. This is to avoid the proposed diffuser.

Clive, that stealth look is seriously cool. I'll shoot you on principal if you don't do it
All jokes aside, that is stunning and some real skill with phitoshop you got there mate
