I have the non billet version.

The XT-R version spools better then the non billet right.

so maybe I can get boost a few hundred rpm earlier with the SC50 billet instead of my old non billet Dom III?
SC50 will be laggy on 2.0L,SC46 will be probably best bet on 2.0STi...

Yes XT-R will spool earlier like yours non-billet,but still SC50 will be laggy on 2.0L.

Hi,

all our SC range of turbo's use custom housings unique to us.

The American versions are quiet laggy we found when tested, over here we prefer spool and reasonable top end which is why the SC46 Billet is a winner, it does both.

cheers

Ok, Sounds good!

I an thinking maybe it is better to go twisted with GT30?

Your twisted setup is it with 3 bolt up pipe?
And is it possible to get with 38mm wg flange?

Hi,

if you wish to buy direct from Blouch please do so, as for me being sure about our custom housing try buying one with a 7cm hot side, I think you will find that you get directed straight to us.

Now lets get back to what this thread is all about and that's the SC Billet range of turbos.

Kev, have there been any results on a billet GT30 running v-power or tesco 99?

I know there was one running e85 but any on unleaded pump fuel?

Hi,

I am sure there are some but we are about to do one later this week I believe on "V" power, when we have results I will update the thread.

Hi all,

Has anyone else got problems with boost creep using these billet turbos?

I have a SC46 on my 2004 JDM STI which is converted from 2.0 to 2.5 and single scroll turbo. Basic supporting mods like e.g. tubular headers, 3" exhaust and a slightly modified intake pipe, and I'm still using the OEM TMIC.

First I thought the problem was with my Grimmspeed EBC, so I tested a Hallman manual one. No difference. Then I put the hose directly from the compressor outlet to the wastegate, obviously a change in boost level, but boost creep problem still remained. Up to 5000rpm no problem, after that the boost peaks to 2bar very quickly. Not sure how high it would go but no point in testing, since the boost is definitely out of control.

It was suggested that I'm not running enough ignition advance due to poor fuel, but that is not the case. I always use Vpower, and the car is mapped by a specialist so the cause for the problem is not to be found there.

I tested when the wastegate starts to open, which is around maybe 1.1-1.2bar, and at 1.5bar I'd say the wastegate is fully open. Not very exact science this test, but the result is anyway that the wastegate seems to be working like it should. I guess?

Looks like porting the wastegate is the only cure for this problem. It's obviously not a preferred option, cause it adds quite considerable costs to this project, and the outcome is still a bit unknown. I mean, will the ported wastegate be able to flow enough to keep the boost in control!? To avoid having to do it twice, the wastegate has to be ported as much as possible, which I guess could cause cracking issues sooner than on a unported one.

A couple of questions to Kev.
Are all SC46's alike, or do you deliver different setups based on engine size? Guess you don't but have to make sure...
A bit related to the previous question, but could it somehow have happened that I got a turbo with the wrong exhaust housing? The boost creep is so significant, and at quite low revs, that the wastegate seems way too restrictive to me.

Anyone else with similar problems? All comments are highly appreciated.

Miki, what downpipe do you have? maybe its the design of the downpipe that is the restriction.

I didn't have any boost creep on my SC46 what so ever.

But give Kev a call, I'm sure he can give you the info you need.

Miki, i've running a 46 on a jdm long motor with GT heads + uppipe and open mouth Japspeed system and don't suffer from any boost creep at all. defiantly worth a call to Kev.

Hi,

none of the SC range suffer from boost creep, its most likely you are running poor fuel, the mapper has to retard the timing causing higher exhaust gas temps and velocity this in turn causes boost creep.

Answer is to get some better fuel or port the turbo's waste-gate a little, they are ported and polished from new but if you have to run lower octane fuel than 99 you will have to port it a little more.

Other than the above you may need to have a look at what sort of ignition advance the mapper has put in there it could cause the issue, I have seen it before.

Cheers

I honestly do not think this could possibly be the cause of the boost creep.
Porting the wastegate therefore seems as the only possible solution.

So Kev, My sc46 is going in as we speak and ill be usually running vpower so nay worries! but to clarify, if i get one of the maps set for 95ron in case of emergencys, ill have to drive on this map cautiously to avoid creep and det!

I have EGT sensor fitted so can keep an eye on whats going on, but how will the 95ron map be set if it cant be maxed out without creep???

Im guessing as each cars different this may not be a problem anyway ..... so i can already guess that the answer is to get it running and cross this bridge if we need to, but it sounds like theres a possibility i wont be able to set one of my maps to a thrashable 95ron option with the sc46????

Hi,

I did miss that bit as I quickly read through your post but I still stand my ground on the poor fuel question, you may think you have V power in the tank but it may be a bad batch or not V power at all, I thought E 85 was available at every filling station out in Finland, if this is the case then try a tank full to see what effect it has on the boost creep.

I hope it solves your problem, the only other time we have had this issue was down to fuel, Martyn at Engine tuner will verify that.

If you need to contact me direct send me an E mail to info@scoobyclinic.com

cheers

Hi,

you have answered your own question,

Cross that bridge if and when you come to it, I wouldn't advise thrashing any car on 95 octane, mapped or not whatever turbo is fitted, it would be only in emergencies that 95 would be used therefore keep off the loud pedal until some proper go gas is back in the tank, or simply carry a bottle of octane booster just in case.

cheers

"you have answered your own question"

realised that as soon as written the post .....je suis dumbass!!!!

Only reason i asked about fuel is im doing a europe road trip soon, then a trip to ireland soon after and am almost definately going to get caught out at some point! Completely understand that i wont be trying too hard on 95ron, but will need to keep up! .... octane booster on the shopping list!

Think ill be ok though as syvecs knock control is pretty bloody good, and i have individual cylinder knock sensors and EGT's displayed when ever its a concern.

Hi,

with the Syvecs and a decent map I don't think you will have any issues.

Keep me posted though as it all adds to the pool of knowledge.
