The CDB would need machining to rear thrust as I would probably go with a 2.1 stroker conversion.

Currently bored to 92.5 I think but bores look sound so hopefully would not need another rebore ?

The Evo option starts to look more attractive however !

I have had chance to remove the other cylinder head and there appears to be no damage to the valves but minor marks on top of the pistons.

The piston in cylinder number 1 has what I can only describe as 'pitting' along one edge,
number 3 piston has a small but noticeable 'nick' near one edge.

Cylinder number 2 (the one with the badly damaged piston) has some marks near the top of the bore.

Does not seem to be any signs of play in the big ends so think the crank is fine.

Looks like I would need a hone or rebore and new pistons to do it properly I think ?

The insurance company have made me a low offer to settle the claim for the STI and we are still negotiating BUT the salvage price for me to buy it back is very good !

If I attempt to repair it, it will always be listed as damaged repaired, the plan would be to swap the engine and box into the WRX and sell the rest for spares.

The STi has AVCS heads, what is the easiest way to use them rather than swap them for a set of standard WRX ones ?

Remember I will have the STi as a complete donor car so the wiring loom and ECU are readily available if required to run the AVCS system ?

Put the complete engine in out of the sti. Run the extra loom in for the avcs solenoids and cam sensors. Fit the sti ecu in the wrx and get it wired in is the easiest solution.

I presume that I can use part of the STi engine harness, what extra wiring do I need to run as well ?

Not very impressed, the insurance company have f****d up royally on this one !

Accident took place 21st January, took them a month to collect the car for repairs, been waiting ever since for their decision on whether to repair or not.

They have been a shambles from start to finish, initially based their valuation on WRX not STi, then based on cars with 20k more miles or no mods (mine were all declared !) or cars that were older or in one case the previous (bugeye) model !

Finally got to what I thought was a fair offer and turns out they have got the salvage cost wrong !

I was going to buy the car back to use as a donor for my WRX, the initial offer price was under £1400.

They have agreed a revised offer to settle the claim but upped the salvage cost to almost £2500 which is more than I would like to pay to use it for bits !

The car will be listed as a CAT D so no point getting it back on the road, by the time I have carried out the bodywork and mechanical repairs required it would owe me £4500 minimum and would not be worth that if I ever came to sell it.

I don't really know what to do next, should I bite the bullet and pay the £2500 salvage ?

I suppose the 6 speed and engine are probably worth that much, the Brembos, interior and 18's would be a bonus ?

The problem would then be, where do I store it to dismantle it ?

You'll easily get the £2500 back from parts I think, space would be an issue though aye!

I have spoken to a local Subaru specialist and got a quote to swap the engine and box into the WRX, says he would buy the car from me for at least the salvage price if I don't decide to do the swap.

Current plan is to agree the settlement and salvage cost then decide what to do from there.
