i know you enjoy cadwell, but do you think its a good choice for a time attack round, i think all the other tracks are great but cadwell is very different. me and phil were chatting prior to the track day sunday and although a brilliant track he to was confused as to why its on the calender , we should have done brands twice indy and gp.
will it bring the lesser power cars into play as there doesnt seem anywhere to really deploy full power

I suggested it to TA for a round of time attack but maybe for another year - would be awesome.

Cadwell is a great track for TA - some awesome spectacle over the mountain seeing 600bhp monsters get all 4 wheels off the ground, amazing speed down the back straight and the need for a properly driven good handling car. I can't think of a better mix of power / handling / driving / braking. Getting the space on track to do it is the key to TA .

i dunno, im not convinced, i think time attack at places like brands is brilliant the track is short and for that lap the cars are at maximum attack, oulton is longer but again the whole lap is full on attack, i just think cadwell is too long and too narrow, maybe by monday i will have changed my opinion. dont get me wrong it looks a fabulous track but it just doesnt shout TIME ATTACK at me like the other circuits do.
i cant really comment from the perspective you t/a regulars can as this is my fist year, but i have watched since 2007 and no tracks like cadwell have ever featured.

TA lap time at cadwell will be similar to Oulton.

Knockhill isnt wide either and if you catch someone on the wrong part of the track there your lap is buggered. Cant see there being much of a difference tbh having driven cadwell many times - there is only one place that you will get held up.

Sure it is no Silverstone from a track width point of view but wait til you have driven the track at least before commenting.

Track day traffic is very different to TA traffic.

i cant see how the two tracks compare, but like you say ill reserve comment until monday. i would much have prefered brands gp for a long circuit. i just think it will be a very cautious round for most people especially if you have never driven it before

I suspect most will drive it beforehand if they have any sense.

I love Cadwell, I've only ridden it on my Bike (GSXR 1000 K2) and it's awesome on that.
Coming over the mountain is trickier than it looks, wind it on past the clubhouse. It get's slippy round Hall bends, hairpin and barn but coming out of barn and winding the throttle to the stop all the way to coppice and knee down round charlies. Christ I've forgotten how good that feels. I cannot wait to have a bash at that in a car

that tight run before the last 2nd gear right looks tricky so does the left right just before that then goes up the hill. what top speeds can you get? som guy reckons his 600bhp evo hit 145 mph at one point

Yep and a bit more. Way beyond the end of 5th gear down the back straight.

Can't remember I was too busy trying to brake and not get highsided at the same time although on on outing there I failed and binned it at around 90mph. Got a great pic of the hole in my leathers somewhere.

well just getting my stuff together to go to cadwell, its a 4 hour drive minimum, thought it was a lot closer. i think i live in the worst part of the country as every decent track is a long long way away, never mind im used to it from going to the clinic.
weather should be good 2moz so might have had my prayers answered in that respect. learn the dry line, shame its only in the clio would have prefered somthing a bit more powerful seeing as next time i drive it ill be in a time attack car

It is a completely different track with decent power tbh but you should be able to get the basis of the lines and some good tips from Phil.

ok you win
what a brilliant track! cadwell park is great in a 2.0ltr clio.
all day it poured with rain, now anyone who has driven cadwell in the extreme wet going to wet/moist by 3pm will know standing water, rivers and aquaplaning is very apparent for a good 1/3 of the lap, a few cars found this out the hard way we had a written off s2000, a written off chaterham ,a pretty mashed metro two black flags(not for me)
first few laps at speed i was sweating, litterally. having never driven the aptly named "mini nuburgring" to take it on first time round in these conditions was first few laps car was everywhere aquaplaning and the worst part was you had to go at speed through the water which covered the narrow track side to side and the length of the straights, im surprised it didnt get stopped. it became more of a car control session carrying any speed into corners was hard & required some quick thinking to correct the slides that eventually became predictable, and then became real fun
as the track dried the track became much easier, having learned it in driving rain i was desperate to get a full paced lap in and around 2 o clock a dryish line began to emmerge. i was amazed what a quick circuit it is, once drained its so good in that clio the car just suited the circuit perfectly and eventually the circuit doesnt feel so narrow
confidence up by 3 we were lapping at a nice pace, keeping pace with a clio 182 cup throughout the laps all in all a cracking track and look forward to going there again.
HOWEVER! if it rains for the time attack round they had better get a lot more staff and a lot more tow trucks. god help us all

just been out to pick up my racewear. got from nicky grist motorsport again cheers guys for the big discounts still expensive as **** though.
i got
alipine stars gp pro race suit blue/blk/white (really nice)
alpine stars tr-1 gloves
stand 21 carbon hans device
alpine stars nomex top, bottoms, balaclava, and a pair of socks
had tried suit after suit but because im 6ft 4 and 13 stone im tall and slim so in the end had to order a special size from alpine stars which i was glad to find out would cost no extra phew
and because the car is in club i had to make the most pointless and annoying purchase of them all a passenger seat
so relieved of another chunk of cash i headed home, with my boxes of kit, on the upside at least you only buy these things once.

i had my ards test this morning 98% total so cleaned up 1 question on the written wrong and one B mark on the driving for my turn in not being 1000% smooth the rest were A so happy, not happy that i had to do it in a **** 1.8 focus instead of the evo, you cant touch a rumble strip and its ten laps for £300 TEN LAPS!!!!!!! now ive gotta pay another 160 for the licence itself so £500 bucks including travel for ten laps and a plastic card

10 laps is good vfm; I only had 4 in a blown VX220 at Snetterton and came away with 100% Also taking in as much kerb as I could and received no complaints from the instructor

YEAH SEEMED A BIT OF A MIXED BAG SOME INSTRUCTORS WANTED THE KERBS AND RUMBLE STRIPS and some didnt, felt very unnatural apexing with no kerb and not running onto rumbles on exits, i found it hard to drive how he wanted to but its like a driving test i spose you gotta do what the instructor wants to pass.
4 laps is robbery at least it was a decent car, i was most pissed about the focus when my evo was in the car park, beraing in mind coz i thought id be doing it mine so changed gearbox and engine oil and changed pads
oh well i got what i went for
(soz bout caps)
