agree with paul on this one mate, in a perfect world it would be nice to find an all singing and dancing front splitter.
i have used a 4mm alloy bottom on mine that comes nearly upto the subframe and i have covered it in black vinyl and also fitted carbon fibre cannards adjustable from 30 - 45 degrees at front, all made myself, took about a day and looks the nuts in my opinion.
give it a try yourself if you have the time matt. no body does a job like yourself
good luck mate, its lookin good

There is plenty to do make front diffusers work properly, beyond just vents in the wings. Our Time Attack car was not optimised in this department, but there may be further tweaks to improve it over time. When we first got it going we just had a flat front splitter as it was all we could afford to do money and time wise at the beginning.

I can't stress enough that you need to concentrate on the important aspects of going quickly, and right now you are focusing on the bits that just look good. And you haven't even driven your own car in anger on track yet, so you have no idea how it's going to be, what you'll need to improve, and what you'll want to ditch from your original ideas.

the kit has been constructed with huge front side vents for exactly that reason if you have a look a couple of pages bk its als got a rear diffuser fitted now with flat panels underneath

cheers andy, its the time aswell ill just keep it simple piece of ply bolted to chassis will do until i get to grips with the car no point shelling out loads of money on a splitter to break it possibly ply wont hurt my pocket if it breaks got the cannards should be here in two weeks, im off up to scoobyclinic tommorrow, i already know my car has finally gone over to the engine shop, so its engine built and in and we should be good to go. i hope, ive got a track day on the 28th feb at cadwell with phil to learn the circuit and another two on the 5th and 17th of march, had booked them last year believing these would be the shakedown days, im going to be doing them in my evo now pretty pointless but hey its all good, might be doing round one in it aswell the way things are looking, ah well time will tell

i can do so little though paul i live over 200 miles from chesterfield so i cant get up to do much work on the car myself, scoobyclinic are the ones doing the heavy work, and they are a bussiness at the end of the day, they have to look after their bread and butter plus they have other customers also in time attack so they cannot dedicate work to my car at the sacrifice of others i myself have just been been doing the odd bit of aero work and just going up once a month with boxes of parts. i wanted the car last year and believe me when i say i am very very scared of round 1 being my shakedown,im ****in ****ting myself if you want the truth, it litterally stops me sleeping the amount i have begun to worry, the car is engineless, again i am not building this myself so i have to just go with the flow, obviously once the engine is in i will book a hotel for a week or two and go up every day in an effort to all other aspects of the car done, then have it mapped and hope for a week or so of acclimatisation time, what will be will be there is no other way i can really look at it

If there is any way to shakedown the car before round one, even with no aero, then you should try. If it's road legal still get it out on the road and at least make sure it's going to stay in one piece!

i am sure a good all singin an dancing front splitter will come along in the next few months, probebly when your not lookin, i didnt use ply on mine for a few reasons, 1 mine comes all the way under the front of the car making the front of the car flat bottomed, and i was a bit unsure of ply settin on fire. and 2 it would be very difficult to get a good finish in ply. this is why i used 4mm alloy. i know that there are people out there using ply with probebly no issues but i am just explaining why i wasnt happy using it.

not a very good pic, but you get the gist mate

just got back from scoobyclinic, a good day , finally the panic of no testing can stop.my engine parts have arrived i think that my entire spec c engine will be up for sale as i am having a full 2.35 race engine so everything is custom nothing is needed from my standard engine, i will find out more if anyone is interested
sorry about the lack of pics not much to see apart from a load of boxed parts, detailed pics will start to go up asap
i arrived about one and the weather there was crazy, i swear the place has its own climate it was freezing, car was under covers finally in the engine shop, everything except for my heads and my hotbits inverted race suspesion was there , and the guys will go flat out until its built, (two engine builders and an electrician). so the turnover will be rapid
once mapped for running in one of the guys will go on the long arduos task of running it in. unlucky james
i spoke to kev about my concerns about time scales and i was glad to hear he will have my car ready to go testing and have it setup by andy mckenna, and in plenty of time for me to get in a track day maybe two if i can find two close together. PHEW
the carbon wing end plates and the five rear splitter fins with sti pink detailing were there aswell and they look stunning. splitter is sorted took the advise of the older and wiser and will be just a flat sheet nice and cheap to start with and this will be developed over the rounds. we have also changed the turbo choice a few of us spoke about it and decided to go with a billet gt33r, this will make the same power as a standard 35r with the benefit of quicker spool so that was finalized aswell.
grahics are as good as done, my seat and pedal mounting positions have been decided, because im 6ft 4 my seat can be mounted a lot further back which was 1000 times more comfortable and will help with weight balance. so now the finish line is really in sight and the car will be ready for round 1 see you at the park
pics of the engine **** as soon as i get some

as soon as i get the complete spec sheet i will post it up for you guys, yeah i am hoping and praying another month, that would leave a month, only take 2 days to run in and a day for andy to set the car up, leaving the rest of that month for track days.
it was decided to run round 1 and 2 with mild - mid boost with power around 480bhp and turn the wick up gradually, its a shame to have to use rounds to develop the car but thats just the way its worked out unfortunately, hope to be running full cream at snetterton, this can be reviewed and changed at any time if i so wish, if its easy to drive full boost and full power, then round 2 it will be cranked up

My personal opinion on that is to make sure it works then run it full boost to get used to it quicker.

PS. I dread to think how much all of this is costing you

Sounds good Matt. Now let the Clinic do their thing so you can have a car in time! A car with 480hp is better than no car at all!

i think i have been sensible in my approach ok its cost slightyly more but once done the engine will cope with 650bhp no probs and it is gauranteed against failures by the clinic, i could have done a diy build but this way i have a car that with no work at all could run competitively in club pro, i wanted the support of a team so decided to get someone else to do the main construction, and they have been very generous to me which has kept the project within the realms of sesibility. i am going to have an exceptional car which will make every penny worth it

most definately at least i will have had some seat time which relieves a lot of the pressure. 480 will be ok for club round 1, just glad to know ill be there now, you still gonna do the track support for your t/a car and duncan?

thats 30 more than me mate, its not what you have got its what you do with it that counts. 480 is plenty mate but i totally agree with adam on that score. driving a 500hp car round track and then driving a 600hp car round track can be like driving 2 totally different cars in how they perform and react, it realy can be like night and day mate.

good luck matt

yup, Fee has cranked up the power (different engine builds due to oil starvation!) from about 300bhp to 400bhp, to 480bhp and now 570bhp.

She still craps it with full boost on the 570bhp...but you are only going to get used to it by using it

Matt : without digging up old stuff.... would you say you are tuner backed?

no im not tuner backed as i have paid for everything with my OWN money, clinic will support me at rounds as i have spend a good chunk()of cash and will be promoting their company(livery) so they want the car running well, its just like duncan had with zen at last years rounds, clinic have done things at cost to help get it to spec, plus they are testing a few things out on my car, things like the body work kev has been really accomadating and will allow me to pay for that work later, as the costs of tyres race fuel etc will soak up a load more cash as you well know just things like that to help me along the way, i have built up a good relationship with the guys and they are always willing to help me if i need it.
if we do hike the power between rounds i shall book a good few track days between rounds to get used to it. good thing like i said engine is built to handle a lot more than 500bhp everything has been built with the future 650 in mind so its a remap and off we go no parts to change no injectors nothing so rollers to track to time attack will be the process, and i know ill want a power hike, 480 is only 45 more than my evo had so shouldnt seem so foreign, although this is STRIPPED

im gagging ive never wanted to drive any car this much in my life
id say this is the worst stage knowing the end is so near yet so far, every morning going straight to the laptop hoping for an update, then that horrible sinking feeling when the inbox has no new messages except for fake viagra, party poker and some stupid **** spams
kev has put the guys on it flat out to get it done, i just feel so tense cant relax coz i cant stop thinking about the damd thing, its like i cant switch off from it, every day that goes by is one day closer to round 1, time seems to be flying at the moment. sometimes if i think about it for too long i get butterflies in my gut, how is a chunk of inanimate metal frying my head like it is
as soon as im forwarded pics ill get them up

Just stick with the current plan so the Clinic don't need to undo work they've already done. When it's finished and you think it's perfect you will still want to change stuff 6 months down the line, so save it all for an off season update if you have the fundage by then!

Looks like a great track that - mate of mine has done it and loved it. Shame it is right on the edge of the world.

I suggested it to TA for a round of time attack but maybe for another year - would be awesome.
