Very true and I agree with Adam's interpretation of the rules - although the regs do say road legal or capable of passing an MOT although I am not sure they have applied that rule yet. Again, as Adam says - the Time Attack team will answer any questions on suitability and that would be my first port of call before its too late in the build.

Can I ask a quick question... you guys are saying that some of the cars shown wont get into the pro class due to the saftey equipment, so what equipment is needed? a full weld in cage?

Is it shawy1976's car that wont get into the pro class? Is there something wrong with that cage?

Im finding it interesting but not too sure which cars your on about and what exactly may be causing issues with entering the pro class

Cheers,
Gaz

Yes if you look at my cage in the picture above it bends around the dashboard rather than going through your dash and having to cut it.
This is a weak point of the cage due to the bend and no you dont need a weld in cage
i know awd ran the same cage last year in club pro with no problems.

Any news on your abw kit utaka

The TA team have said earlier in the year that if I sent them pictures of the cages I was thinking of, they would decide if they were ok or not. I am sure they are still willing to do this.

But, the dash dodger cage is pretty much a no no. The bend is a weak point. If you have a bolt in cage that comes straight down in front of the dash then that would be ok (check for next year).

I do find it strange that even in club, if I put a cage in it can't be a dash dodger. But, I can run all year a hanfull of seconds off the club pro fastest times and be third in the championship without one at all.

ok now this is confusing for me now, correct me if i am wrong but on the last round there was too many club challenge cars to be able to get a good fast lap in, so timeattack bosses said that the top 6 or so cars in club were able to run with the club pro and pro cars, this in my veiw caused quite a few concerns.
1.. the safty rules for club are not as strict as club pro and pro so if safty was this realy big issue for timeattack bosses, then why did they let this happen, after all none of the club guys that were able to run with the club pro guys had ards tests or plumbed in fire ex or weld in cages.
2..all the cars in the top 6 that got moved up had an unfair advantage due to being able to follow club pro guys around the track and therefore enableing them to get a quicker time.

i ran a 340hp borrowed road car at oulton timeattack with no 4th gear and rubbish brakes. you didnt see me asking everyone to run less power to give me a chance.
you can put me in whatever class you feel fit as far as i am concerned, it would only make me quicker.
its not about the winning its the whole experience.

Club don't need cages but any cage so long as not less safe than than not having one would be, I am sure, be ok. (check with scrut but he has told me that a dash dodger is fine and plenty do run them in club because they are better than nothing IMO)

If you want to sacrifice your own safety for the sake of the weight saving JB - it is your choice. Personally I chose the extra weight as we are going fairly quickly out there and if **** happens it is gonna hurt.

I got held up by the club pro guys in practice but during qualifying we were having to be extra careful in case a gobstopper flew up behind you at 1 gazillion mph. I do not feel that one group was particularly advantaged as a result - everyone had more track room apart from the club pro/pro guys.

The final was club only on track. Everyone had the same chance of getting a lap.

totally agree duncan
on some tracks you can get up to some lairy speeds, you cant put a price on safety as far as i am concerned.

I know where your coming from Duncan. With the speeds we are doing in club I really need a cage. With 4 weeks to go though it's not going to happen. I will run Snett with no cage. If I do enter next year I will have a cage, as it does make me nervous at some points on certain circuits (your corner at Oulton for example).

I think we should start a new thread for all this rather than stealing this one

True - Oulton hurt last year (even with a cage and in lots of ways ) - the neck brace that we use now would have helped and I am sure helped Fee at Oulton this year.

Yeah we have kind of kidnapped this thread - sorry Utaka.

i do disagree on that one duncan, if you watch the moto gp in quallifying you always get a normaly slower rider hooking up behind a faster one to get a quicker qualifying time, and it works, you may not feel that it benifitted you or the others but i would be surprised if it didnt,
only my opinion, no dig intended,
put it this way, if they move the top 6 up again i will be asking to go up too,

swings and roundabouts...

Move up a class and you'll be watching your back more.... stay in the lower class and you'll be coming across slower cars..

no carry on lets try to beat skull fudges 100+pages. i think im just gonna go with the pro, im building my car to the spec i desire my cage is apparently plenty good enough for club pro so im going to finish my build do plenty of testing with the clinic and see if i can get some time with phil in the car, and im just going to race in which ever class time attack admin decide no point us all anticipating whats going to happen, lets just all get our cars done and ready for battle next year and whatever class it may be let the best man win. car has totally stressed me out past few weeks but hopefully now things will get moving at speed again now and my enthusiasm will return.
no pics at the mo soz hopefully i will have some more soon

Have to say this thread has gone a bit off the rails.
Your car is looking to be a quality piece of kit and i hope you keep your enthusiasm!!
As you say what will be will be and i hope you you do well in whatever class you compete in.

Great, I am there with a friend who's got a pretty quick Lotus. We are going for a bit of a play about. Be good to see you there.

I'll start thinking of my excuses why I'm so slow now then

i dont think you need any excuses, 450 - 500 hp is more than enough for oulton, any more and it starts getting a bit lairy going under the advan tyre.
my mate is also coming in his 280hp cateram, he does 1min 48s on the full curcuit,on r888s, 2secs less on new slicks
are you going shootout on sunday ?

here is one teaser pic still five weeks of bodywork to go and its been roughly a month to this stage so about halfway through. this will be the only pic for time being wheels are going matte black in centres gold looks sh$t. this is not the finished kit its all shaping for moulds so darren can sell this to public for road cars, so arches are nice and spacious so no fouling and is built with road in mind, mine is being seriously altered after kit moulds are taken to make it more track focussed. watch this space
