Mat that post implies the kit doesn't fit is that the case ? as everyone at the Clinic said it was a perfect fit . I thought the alterations were to suit your needs not to make it fit ?

Why would you want to change it to have the arches fit that close to the wheels?

hey all no update for a few weeks now but car is still going its just getting the kit mounted properly for motorsport and lots of little brackets have needed machining for the kit and all the fixings and mountings inside aswell. so thats the subaru now for a little story.
finally my long trusted steed (1.4 ltr almera tiempo... n reg.... 145k on the clock) has been killed. some grunge loving goth ploughed into the rear end at about 40mph. death was instantanious. me and the mrs got whiplash and compo which was nice and i got a measley 500 for the almera. my sti spec c is a track tool now so my hand has been forced and i need a new motor this week. firstly i thought another banger but that thought quickly came and went, so started looking around the 7k area. to cut a long story short after going to quite a few cars with the money in my back pocket i had come home with nothing. dont get me wrong there are things out there for 7k but nothing that can prize the money from my hand. so my new brief was something newer, low milage, a drivers car(im sick of ****ty bangers),6 gears for my motorway journey, a turbo( i know) and most of all something i want. the last car i have bought that i have really wanted was my hawkeye spec c even none of my 6 classics fulfilled me as much as buying the spec c did , so it was always gonna be something along those lines.
after 3 days of hunting and scouring the internet and at the point of giving up, my friend e-mailed me an evo that is at Xtreme uk.yes yes its an evo ive had a lot of subarus and i just fancy a change but not too much of a change. if its as nice in the flesh as it is in the pics then tommorrow im going to own this little beauty. going to view it in the morning. its an MR, LOW miles, one owner ,serviced evry 2k at mitsubishi ralliart. full cambelt service done yesterday at extreme as i specified it should be although slightly premature, no mods at all, 4 brand new tyres brand new pads, new tax & test.

Insane service intervals on the older evo's though, worse than Subaru.

Steven, looking at the high spec of TA build and running an Evo as a daily hack I'd imagine the 4k service intervals aren't going to be an issue

couldnt have put it better myself
only joking service intervals do suck bum
on a serious note cheers for the heads up on the services intervals.
fortunately i owned an evo 6 makkinen about 3 years ago so i know what bagage comes with them. i just feel that now that i have a 300 mile a week treck i want to be in a place i want to be not stuck in a small engine car again with a top speed of 80, wit the old grey interior, crap performance etc plus it really depressed me driving that rust bucket around for the past 15/16 months.
my mate has an fq 360 he drives motorway miles in 6th gear 80mph he says his fuel economy is no where near as bad as everyone makes out obviously a positive prod of the loud pedal and the fuel gauge drops like a stone but a year later he is as happy as the day he got it and has no thoughts of changing it due to poor fuel economy.
the way i look at it if you want a nice luxurious car you look at bmw mercedes etc now for a nice one of either of those cars your talking 14k+ for a good example. i dont want a beemer or a merc well not at this age and this point of my life anyway, so i thought instead of an old subaru / evo i thought im going to take my budget and buy something i want not something for the sake of it. well im off to go view the car now so when im back on here later ill be or

I do 500 miles a week on average, and looked and looked at the Evo's but just couldnt bring myself to buy one because of the service intervals, ie EVERY 2 months! It's not the cost, its the bloody frequency.

Doing time attack will drain every penny you have, extra costs of servicing a daily runner and fueling a greedy daily runner, will assist the penny drainage. Swallow your pride, there are plenty of nice run abouts out there that will do many of the things you want, for a lot less annual cost.

Had a mooch around your motor last time I was at SC utaka (hope you don't mind ), looks very nice mate.

It's gonna be a beast!

As for the Evo being expensive to run....perhaps money isn't an object for him - or is that thought a little too left-field?

no problem mate, cheers for the comments nice to hear positivity towards a project. it should be up there next year the car definateley will be capable and after a year with phil glewe now i feel my driving is the best its ever been so we will just have to wait and see. would be nice to take club challenge at the first time of asking, but there are some talented drivers in time attack so its all about what happens on the day and now with duncan and shane in club/pro next year the door is wide open.

the evo is a lovely car looked over it for a good hour took a bodyshop friend with me and we scoured it i checked evreything and this was just clean beyond belief. no mechanical issues at all no knocks whines not even a rattle only 1 or two tiny stone chips no resprays no repairs it gets a full cambelt service before collection, and im happy to service every 4k. the gearbox felt new the engine felt perfect, it is just a very clean car, and as they are an old ralliart garage it gets a two year extended warrenty. xtreme check over every engine so they can put a warrenty on with confidence the car isnt a dud.
oh well lets see what happens tommorow.

The M3 worked out cheaper to run than the Evo. 15000 mile service intervals, 30mpg on motorway work. Averaged 24mpg since the day i bought it 70000 miles ago.

Yep the white hatch thats been featured in the mags, comes with all the mods, the best bits being the AP's all round. Pure chance i was talking with Olly about buying one, and he offered me theirs at a good price, so i bought it. Much longer service intervals on these than the Evos

No probs if you are aware of the costs involved, you just deviated from your original suggestion, just wanted to make sure you know what you were letting yourself in for

Most likely developing a new car. I wouldn't write them off. Not sure who bought it. But someone's got a bargain imo.

thats what i mean it makes no sense. they sold it for 75k ono and they will be selling that at a loss surely. there is no way even at cost with the spec it has and the amount of development that has gone into it, could a car that competetive be rebuilt and improved upon when starting again from scratch for 75k no way i know how expensive my build has been and scooby clinic have helped me no end with cost and my car is nothing compared to the ex zen car. if they have bowed out which i imagine will be the case for next year at least, who will there be to challenge rcm next year. i heard a rumor they were thinking of selling the gobstopper but i cant be believing crap like that that

LOL I don't know where you're getting you're info from but it's fairly inaccurate.

The Zen car was for sale for £45K not £75K. RCM are not selling the Gobstopper either but they are building a new car.
