08/09 Hatches, Stand up and show yourselves!!!
Charlie usually supplies a BHP/AFR graph and a wheel BHP/Torque graph as well.........
Just as a comparison..............

hi rob, yes i did and here it is. Sorry for my stupidity but what is AFR? and what will it tell you? what point is the boost tailing off then, again sorry I have never really got or understood what information I am looking for on the graphs. I have been contemplating having the car mapped by the likes of bob or simon but would void the warranty so holding fire at the moment but could i ask what sort of gains would i see from it
here is the AFR graph

thanks mate

Looking at the afr graph you seem to be very lean up to 3000rpm ideal should be around 14 ish for idle decreasing to around 11 or 12. I doubt you'd pass an mot like that. Unless the probe wasn't fitted right. 10 seems very rich. If you had the car mapped you'd see some gains by leaning out the top end a touch
Not sure if it is meant to be like that nor if it makes a big difference but to me it looks like the car dies off around 3600-5000 as the curve drops inwards, is that normal or should it not be a smooth and progressive / continuous curve if that makes sense, looking at Dons it does a similar thing but to my eyes no where near as bad.
funny thing is i am trying to see what you guys are and i cant lol, this is the subaru base map Rob so not sure what i can do as if I map it i loose the warranty.

the graph you are looking at is the boost which peaks at 3600rpm then starts to tail off, would have thought it should hang on a little longer to be fair
thanks Rob, as i said earlier this is the standard map so should these be something i should be worrying about?
what point in theory should the afr start then?
what point should it hang on to?

what point should it hang on to?
depending on which pipe the guy fitted the sensor to on the RR could vary the start result, should ideally start at around 14:7 on idle closed loop, yours is way above 18 ?? 10 seems very rich in the upper rpm scale to be honest. is this the subaru map or a ppp map ??
I'd rather the car was running rich as opposed to lean lol
Just the start point is hellish lean, but as stated that could be down to which pipe the afr probe was fitted

ok well it was done by Charlie at surrey rolling road so would like to think he knows what or where he should be doing it.
it is on the 330s map pal which ever that comes under.
i appreciate it its best to run rich but it seems mine is doing both lol, is the lean bit at the beginning that bad or that much to worry over if the rest is running rich which again cant be to good, Charlie did mention that when he was sorting the graph
what am i looking at to have it mapped, i assume the options are endless, so racerom, ecutek, simtek etc etc all at different costs

It does salsa well with a pro r panel filter and H&S back box but it's lean, rich and the boost tails off and itseems to die off mid curve aalthough it feels fine on the road and feels like it's still pulling which is what counts the bum dyno but I'm just concerned about the leanness and then richness of it all.
Thinking of an after market map but that would void the remaining warranty so not too sure what to do

I'd get the afrs independently checked, std subaru maps up top end are usually rich but considering yours has a ppp on it I'd expect it to look similar to dons graph in relation to the afr, the choice is an ecutek map with the racerom fitted which will not only boost the power it will be specific to how your car runs and not an off the shelf map so to speak.

I'd of thought the non standard exhaust would be an issue with regards to warranty?
hi lads got a 2008 sti hatch with the standard exhaust system, the exhaust looks like its rotten and theres not much sound out of it.can anyone recommend a decent system, seen a few on ebay which where kind of pricey.thanks
Hayward & scott is among one of the greats of the exhaust world, several owners on here have them on there hatches
Certainly got my money's worth out of it and a return when sold on.

Echo all of that, I have the back box on mine and it sounds great. A nice deep quiet burble around town but plant the loud pedal and it has a growl to it, most comment on it who get in the car for the first time but with positive stuff unlike some other exhausts I've had.
Also I Would spend once and get something of quality. Unfortunately there is never that much used stuff about for the hatch sti so in most cases the only way is to buy new.

It does make you wonder what the issue is with swapping just a back box if your dealer did anyway.
Or is that the reason you're running rich cus the car should be re mapped if you swap anything like that?
The running rich is usual for OEM/PPP map, the lower end of the AFR trace showing very lean is the unusual factor.
As Rob says it could be as simple as which outlet pipe charlie attached the lambda probe to.
Yes mate it was on the car when I bought it
I hope it was something like that Don but I'm still not a fan of the base map and I'm strongly considering saying goodbye to the warranty and having a decent map put on it, the extra power or performance would just be a bonus at this point
If we get this meet finalised, you'll get a "second opinion" before you do anything

Same decision I made when my car was 12 months old, certainly gave me piece of mind when engines were going bang around me!
