08/09 Hatches, Stand up and show yourselves!!!
Well I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself!
managed to fit tail light overlays myself tonight. Took the light housings off the car as it's said to be a whole lot easier. I ordered these from America as Litchfield's said theirs were on a few weeks delay.
Started off tricky but this stuff heats up so much with the hairdryer that it almost shrink wraps itself to the light housing. They obviously got easier as I went on and then I ended up going back to the first one to correct a few bits I'd learnt along the way. The film goes crisp when it dries so it kind of cures on the lens housing in the shape you've moulded it to. Gonna leave it to fully cure overnight then back on the car tomorrow.

Well boys and girls, the time has come to say good bye to my beloved (and well sorted) STI hatchback after two years of owning her

She is up on Piston heads now at the princely sum of £14995.
I’m looking to have some work done on the house and the Scoobie will really help fund this.
I will be really sorry to see her go and boy we have had a blast, but its time for a change.
Please feel free to ask anything etc or if someone what’s to take on this great car let me know.
cheers Ian

Hi Rob, Not to bad really, cost about £35 and took around 5 hours to fit. there's a great how to on one of the US forums that I followed with no problems. I have to say they look stunning
hardest part was splitting the headlight after heating it up in a oven for 15 mins. the black sealing glue is well........tricky or should I say sticky LOL.
well pleased with the end result. but now it comes to an end. Really can't think of what to get next...But....all I will say is the war on the motorist is about to get another victim!!
Mini Cooper D clubman anyone.....:-(

DRL wiring harness - wired mine back to the OP connector via the A pillar wing grommet and sidelight trigger feed located under wing.

Found some good quality LED rings instead of using the CCFF ones (so no ballast/starter to worry about).
The 115mm rings fit nicely at the base of the light cone but the chrome surround requires some cutting/fitting at the bottom where its flat.
I left the small square connector on the LED's so it's inside the headlight, should they have to come apart again.

However, I don't believe that it's uncommon for young guys/gals in the US to be running around in some serious hardware. The cars are cheaper over there and I assume getting insurance can't be as much of an issue.
I've seen some 'interesting' threads on the likes of NASIOC etc regarding the average age of STi owners - with the result being something like 26! And there was another thread titled something like 'Who's over 30 and still drives an STi?'
Bit of tech assisstance - can any one provide the Subaru part nos. of the lambda sensors?
There is one in header / collector before up-pipe I think, and one in d/pipe after cat ??
I have NGK/NTK part nos. but supplier wants OEM part number to be sure.
Any numbers guys?
Pre cat 24695
Post cat 24642
330S has been very sooty in all 4 exhaust pipes, rich on idle / hi CO on MOT, and was looking to change lambda's before mapping session soon as it seems to be mainly rich off boost / under 3000 rpm - blows out when booted!
Compression is fine when tested at 3 year service..
Thanks
V

And apparently chucks out some stuff when booted.
Thanks Don.
Urban - Is yours ECUtek / remapped, race rommed?
Mine was rich from the remap, and after tweeking to fill a "hole" indriveability at around 3000 rpm seemed much richer / 3 mpg lower!! - crispy bits of carbon can be found on number plate, and after a cruise off boost does put out a cloud of black smoke when hitting full boost / throttle.
I have had the ECUTek 800 cc/min injectors fitted for the last map as previous map said I was on 92% duty on the std ones.
Hope its not a leaky injector!
HI CO on MOT ... failed a couple of times! HC was OK.
Rob checked lamba on laptop at 3 yr service and seemed oK, compression was good 130,130,129,132 if I recall!
Thought I'd swap out lambdas in case they are fouled / failing.
Added - changinf air filter on the AEM CAIK for a new clean one, and changing plugs ( was going back to std 6 heat rate but may sick with the 7's ) to eliminate any other contributing causes!
Ohh yeah, used Meths on the 2nd map sometimes, but maybe 1 tank of mix every couple of months - it's not a day to day thing! It was said meths use makes exhaust sootier. Not sure, does it when not on meths!

Funny you guys bring this up as over the last month or so I've noticed a drop in mpg, where I used to see around 26 It has dropped to 23.7-24.1 and the quad pipes are all sooty etc
Running standard map, did think the same about possible sensor fails and miss readings etc so thought I would keep an eye out on what actual miles I get out of the tank

I used to get an easy 23 - 24 mpg, now really struggle to get over 20 mpg, and that's mainly 60 mph on dual carriage way not thrashing around!!
Maybe the bigger injectors, maybe the need to richen up to sort a driveability thing, but is less MPG, more sooty, failed MOT on emissions ( with sports cat ) & throws carbon bits out of exhaust onto number plate!
Changed AEM CAIK air filter today for a new one, and bought protective wrap ( expensive condom for air filter at £26 !! ) for it as in wing and I seem to see water in o/s wing behind fog lamp / in front of wheel, where filter lives, and some cleaner for the filters.
Got new plugs to go in - 6's and 7's - need to choose which .. hotter to burn off carbon or colder ( as current ) as car is 50 hp higher? And finally ordered 2 lambda sensors in case mine knackered or choked with carbon, from HGL / Just Lambda - matched the part numbers above with direct fitment electrical connector.
Other lambda cos. and factors, etc. could only find post cat one.
I'll let you know how it goes.
