if yes is the answer then can I ask subaru to supply & fit a set for me at their cost?
Forged Pistons & a custom map for the vehicle will stop the issue, Been proven far to many times now. I've built far to many hatches to forged spec to know this. Even my own has covered 32,000 miles on a forged Engine and thats been given the biggest thrashing of its life.

anyway.....

Subaru Will not I repeat will not deviate in anyway from standard format of any of there parts whilst the vehicle remains under manufacturers warranty.

However if you were to supply Forged pistons and pay your technician or dealer to fit these for you, there is no way that can be stopped. However any warranty supplied/Implied or Given will be void upon any deviation from standard format and the risk is entirely on your shoulders.

Personally I reckon they'd turn their nose up at the very idea of it.

Subaru Cannot deviate from standard specification and will not knowingly fit forged parts to one of there warranty claims.

The owner however can supply any parts they wish but there will be no warranty on the engine afterwards

BHPx 1020/Wt in Kilograms=BHP per imperial ton

eg standard sti hatch 296x1020/1505 = 200.6 BHP per ton

Guys is the eibach pro kit the same as the one offered by pro r?

And what difference is that to the springs fitted to the 330s springs? Just I'm sure the springs on the P1 were the same as the eibach at the time, may be wrong though lol.

AFAIK No.

The Eibach springs are their own interpretation.

The Pro-R springs are a development collaboration between Subaru UK (Mike Wood) and Eibach as were all previous spring kits from Prodrive.

I have both iGo and Tom Tom software to choose from but on this unit I prefer the iGo, just saved to an SD card.

Sorry what is CE?

Here is a pic fitted, it may not be quite as good as the ken woods etc but is OE which is what I wanted, the colours etc all match the dah and surrounds.

Mark, the Subaru maps are half the problem, I'd not be surprised if they were capable of destroying a set of forged pistons!

This is the reason why I thought to hell with the warranty pretty much from day one and had a custom map, Duncun (aka Dynamix) is not that expensive if you don't want to pay for the ecutek licence etc.

Without supporting mods you'd be looking at about 20bhp over the PPP map and piece of mind, certainly if you go forged too.

****, have all your services been on time?

If you have no engine mods that's just outrageous!

So you'll be on the phone to IM MD then at 9.30.

Good luck.

That's shocking - I assume the car has been serviced in timely fashion.

Good luck

well thats the thing, i thought the service gaps were every 12k, but they are 10k, so i have 14k from first @ 10k (which was 12 months) and 2nd at 24k (14 months)

therefore this is what they are saying has invalidated the warranty

Spoke with Mike wood who is going to chat to Gary, the subaru bloke that went to look at the engine

Every 10,000 miles give or take 1000 miles or 4 weeks either way unfortunately.

The factory will be making the decision as that's who pays the engine warranty. Unless you get a gesture of goodwill but that's Subaru uk's decision ultimately

On the subject of pistons. Mahle 4032 forged pistons would suffice.

That's terrible news Mark but i cannot wait for someone to really push one of these cases. Regardless of slightly extended service intervals (which is not ideal) it is outrageous to think that you should accept 2 engine failures in a car of this money, age and mileage. It is the easiest thing in the world to build a case proving these engines in standard form are not durable.

Subaru if you are reading. You need to recognise the mans contribution toward Subaru clubs, put yourself in his (and many other peoples shoes) and do the right thing.

Mark

I would also look at your Statutory rights under the sales of goods act. You have protection in certain areas under this act for 6 years from purchase. This is regardless of what your manufacturers warranty implies.

Have you settled your finance, if not put a merchandise complaint in through them (don't stop the payments).

Mick - that's a really good idea.

With regards to pushing a case - an individual has no chance here.

Not sure i agree with that mate

My own view is that there is enough evidence out there and the consequences of someone setting their stall out professionally are huge for Subaru.

Its a scandal. It still gets my pulse going now (and i don't have a car)

waiting to hear back from Mike Wood but my wife is lining up solicitor and has the SOGA & Motor Industry code of practice new car (points 4.1 4.2 and 4.3)

I have gathered over 50 cases of piston ring failure paperwork, many are the same situation as mine so if you are looking at a case, its here!!!

You're right - it is a disgrace

But, I was thinking about the legal fees
I'm going to go off looking now, but do any of you know off hand what the outcome was in the USA.
Didn't Subaru US stop selling at one point?

The issue is Global and there are cases all over the place. It is undefendable. Just needs someone stubborn to see it through.

This doesn't need to attract huge legal fees.

ok so when I bought my 330s which was 2 years old and lets say the previous owner did not keep to that schedule but I did from the time i bought it, then it goes pop how fair is that!!! also not a single member of staff informed me of that at time of purchase, is it in the written in the service manual?

this is not a pop at you by the way i am just curious and as you have an extensive knowledge im just asking

do a search for sti ringland failure on google, there is over 10k results

search for 2009 subaru smoke on startup, over 7Million results

this is global and will use info from other countries as part of case

one interesting thing i noticed in service book, you cannot use STi on track, without prior permission from Subaru
