A simple arch roll would solve the 25mm spacer issue. Most counties have a "man" who will do it for a ton

I know how you feel. All the sti problems have put me off doing anything to mine, other than cosmetic.

I've come to the conclusion that I am just going to sit and plan what I want then give the car a 3 yo birthday present.

I also understand how you feel Mark

Exchanged a few letter with Subaru U.K re the failures. The blame appears to lie with there customers constantly red lining there cars

They tell me there is exactly the same risk of engine failure even with forged internals

Enough said

i think i've hit the limiter once, i see no point of taking an engine to the limit and no its not good for it so the next excuse please lol

Subaru are full of sh!te they wont admit the problem lies with a shoddy map and crap design in piston.

forged pistons are allot more stronger that the crappy cast version they offer even an email from andy forrest performance can clarify this, here's a picture of what happens to the cast ones. thi shappens to be mine removed from cylinder two, it has wrecked the bore too.

compare this piston which is a mahle powerpak forged one vs that one above note the difference in the rings and the thickness before the top ring

Don't the seats have the height adjustment ( lever ) on the side, up/down maybe an inch+ change?
Assume you have both tried that and still not enough clearance?
Or is that just the 330S recaro's that have this?

Other than that an after market seat mount frame might be lower, or have some fabbed in ally. Lose adjustments then though?

There is a huge difference there Rob between the standard and forged

I completely agree that the problem from day one was due to map and piston issues. I don't buy into the redline theory and if anyone chose to push this legally then a quick internet search finds loads of info, examples and evidence

Difficult situation for Subaru to handle TBH but the test for them will be how they handle piston failure outside of the 3 years warranty. If they shut the door on fully serviced and maintained cars at this point, then that will speak volumes

It will also force the issue and someone is bound to challenge them legally.

Shocking isn't it Rob.

Did you have any "symptoms" of the no 2 piston ringlands failing?

The thing I came up with was maybe having the seats resculptured, or your looking at replacement seats.

Haven't looked into the rescultured option, as its going to be alot of cash.

Had it ordered for my 330S when I had it - poor quality IMHO but then it is a fraction of the cost of a genuine STi splitter.

Pity Scott Lowe wasn't still trading.............

Yes there was symptoms, Funny starting issues as if the starter momenteraly skips.
Breather pipes along the intercooler filling with mayonaise and oil.
Burning loads of oil on start up
Some days it would have loads of power then other days it was as much use as a fart in a bottle wouldnt go.

Now I am waiting for someone to remind us that mapped cars don't go Pop!

<trolling! >

So std cars, PPP and 330S cars go pop, and mapped cars ( less of them tho ) can go Pop.

My mapper ( of my old car ) a certain Edinburgh based gentleman tells me that 360 is about as high as he would go safely, and the Hatch engines are VERY sensitive to DET, and the first bit of bad ( read cheap supermarket or non Super / non VPower ) ..may as well let him tell it - sure he won't mind me sharing it!

Andy Forrest says :
"I have done 15 of the MY08/09 cars over the past 2 years, typically they achieve 360bhp and 390-400lbft of torque in this spec.

However, I have to warn you, at this level they will not tolerate any poor quality fuel. It is not unheard of for them to crack a piston ringland if they see any knock whatsoever at this level. As nobody can guarantee the fuel quality in the petrol stations tanks, it is difficult to say how reliable the car will be at this level. There are cars out there that have done over 25,000 miles at this level without issue and others that have had a problem within 5,000 miles. The Prodrive 330 upgrade has been known to have similar results.

An upgrade to the standard pistons resolves this problem but that is an expense that most are not willing to undertake."

For the past week or so the car has been making a rattling/tapping noise on cold start up, it settles down after a couple of minutes. also the starter motor has made a crunching sound when i turn the key. could this have anything to do with the dreaded piston problem? this car makes me so paranoid!

Thanks

Luke

A quick Compression test would immediatly tell you if its a piston problem Rattling on start up is not good unless its a forged engine then they do make some noises
